Diarmid, Jude, Christy or Keir?

Just found out today that we are having a boy. The first one in our family for 36 years! We only ever produced girls. The cycle has finally been broken. In shock, but nice shock, and v excited. :)

Now for the serious business of names. We have narrowed it down to the four mentioned in title. Opinions, thoughts? :)

Congratulations. I think Diarmuid should have a u in it.

FayKnights · 01/12/2011 22:55

Congratulations!
I absolutely love the name Keir, unusual without being unpronounceable.

Kayano · 01/12/2011 23:31

I can trump you. No girls on my mums side for 90 years and no boys on my dads side since him - 65 years Wink

And I'm having another girl
Grin for lots of free clothes
Angry I'm not the 'special' one who has the first boy... Yet Wink

I like keir

ohfuschia · 01/12/2011 23:41

Congratulations, I think Keir is a great name, also like Christy.

AnotherMincepie · 01/12/2011 23:48

I like Jude best, then Diarmuid.

scarlettlips · 02/12/2011 09:25

Keir, is lovely then Jude! Not so keen on the others.

RillaBlythe · 02/12/2011 20:43

I love Keir. I also like Christy & Jude, but not keen on Diarmuid.

chipmonkey · 02/12/2011 21:24

Diarmuid does have a U in it unless you are using a rare island dialectWink

MitziKinsky · 02/12/2011 21:34

DH and I always pronounce Diarmuid as Der-moid for our own amusement. No idea why, as I actually really like the name. Jude is nice, and although I don't relaly like the name Christy, I know a lovely one. Not keen on Keir.

mathanxiety · 02/12/2011 22:09

Jude and Diarmuid are fabulous. Congratulations.

ChineapplePunk · 02/12/2011 22:20

Thanks. Lots of different opinions. Although, I think I'll probably be undecided up until the last minute. I guess I could wait and see it he looks like either a Diarmid, Jude, Keir, or Christy. :)

On a side note, I actually preferred the Scottish Gaelic form of the name which is spelled Diarmad, and then found out there were also anglicised forms including Diarmid and Dermid. Out of all of them I liked Diarmid. Dunno why, because they are all pronounced the same. :)

Diarmuid is very nice.
Jude to me is a girls name?
Christy - not sure.
Keir, is also very nice.

Congratulations on breaking the cycle :)

chipmonkey · 02/12/2011 22:33

Christy needs to be said in a strong Dublin accent.

picnicbasketcase · 02/12/2011 22:36

Jude and Christy both sound too much like girls names.
Diarmid I don't like, sorry.
I'd go for Keir from your choices.

Carrotsandcelery · 02/12/2011 22:37

Christy is my favourite and a lovely name imho.

Would it help to look at what the names mean?

I think that accent is also relevant here. They would all sound fantastic with an Irish or Scottish accent and possibly Welsh as well.

Carrotsandcelery · 02/12/2011 22:38

I just looked on your profile and saw you come from Paisley. Definitely Christy imo.

MrsChristmasDB · 02/12/2011 22:40

I like Keir best

HoldTouchEngage · 03/12/2011 10:37

Jude, Jude, Jude! Grin Grin Grin

mollschambers · 03/12/2011 10:41

Love Jude. Keir nice too.

Christy is nice too but I've only known it to be used for girls. Depends on where you are though. I'm north Scotland where it's used as a twist on Kirsty. Might not be an issue elsewhere.

Carrotsandcelery · 03/12/2011 10:48

I know a boy called Christy and one called Christie in the NE Scotland and it works brilliantly on both of them. I know of female Kristy, Christy and Christies as well. Some names are like that and work either way without losing masculinity or femininity.

thousandDenierStocking · 03/12/2011 10:52

I like them all, but think that Christy would need to be a rugged chap to really pull it off.

Jude is my favourite
