Anyone fancy the name Wren for a girl?

Just a thought really and I realise it's prob a name people would either love or hate but a friend of friend's just named her baby girl wren and I thought it may inspire some of you expecting a girl?
Have to say I'm so taken with it, if I had another DD, (already have 3!) I would quite possibly choose it! I'm currently preg with no.4 and last though and it's a boy so won't get to use it!
Anyway, just food for thought for some of you maybe??? :)

I saw it this week on a Cbeebies birthday card but er, no, not for me. Doesn't look nice, or sound nice. Sorry.

EdithWeston · 18/11/2011 10:58

I'd think of the Royal Navy. Even though the term isn't in use for current Service personnel, it lives on in both common parlance and the Benevolent Association.

birdofthenorth · 18/11/2011 14:52

Like it.

CheerfulYank · 18/11/2011 17:41

I like it. I knew a little one who had an older brother named Tennessee and then a younger sibling named Cedar (not sure if it was a girl or boy). Not my sort of names, but I really thought they were nice. :)

It you can name your kid Robin or Jay, why not Wren?

Dialsmavis · 20/11/2011 08:46

My best friends baby is Indigo Wren.... love it (and her).

catsareevil · 20/11/2011 08:48

It makes me think of the military connection too. I dont like it.

MelinaM · 20/11/2011 12:45

It is a lovely nameSmile A friend at school was Eren but Ren for short, I love it!

SoupDragon · 20/11/2011 12:49

I call DD Wren but her name is actually Seren.

And she is so not like a wren is is unbelievable. More of an albatross. For this reason I wouldn't use it as a proper name.

Sandalwood · 20/11/2011 12:52

You could have a Wren .... and Stimpy

OhBuggerandArse · 20/11/2011 12:53

Yep, SoupDragon, that was my thought. What if she turned out to be a great big roaring tempestuous character, saddled with a teeny weeny sweet little name?

SoupDragon · 20/11/2011 13:19

LOLOL - you've just described DD :o

ViviPru · 20/11/2011 13:46

I LOVE Wren for a girls name, but my dogs nn is Ren, so not possible!

planetpotty · 20/11/2011 13:49

I think I would love it but can't get past the navy connection. For the same reason could never have a Jack (means to be selfish and said a lot).

LaurenLaverne · 20/11/2011 17:23

I love it! Was trying to persuade DH that we should use it but have now found out we are having a boy. He really didnt like it though!

Wants3 · 20/11/2011 17:37

I heard someone had called their daughter Wren and instantly loved it but as we already have a Jenny in our house, didn't think I could use it! I would have to be a petite girl to carry the name well.

Wants3 · 20/11/2011 17:38

It!

nooka · 21/11/2011 03:49

To me Wren sounds masculine, so I don't think it's the best name for a dd.

Makes me think of St Paul's Cathedral, the navy and Ren and Stimpy.

ShengdanRoad · 21/11/2011 05:24

I can't stand it when girls are given twee, airy-fairy little names. Daisy, Millie, Poppy, Tilly, etc. Do you want her to grow up thinking she's nothing but a flimsy flower, born to look pretty and die when the beauty fades?

Choose a big, strong, meaningful name that she can be proud of and grow into.

CheerfulYank · 21/11/2011 05:29

I think Wren is meaningful, and quite lovely Shengdan . People name boys Martin, Robin, and Jay quite frequently and those are birds too...

LittleMissHumbuggery · 21/11/2011 22:40

A friend of mine's daughter is nicknamed Wren, as their slightly older daughter couldn't pronounce her full name. Both her names are lovely, and she suits both of them:o

MogTheForgetfulCat · 21/11/2011 22:43

I know a little Wren (big brother Idris, how cool is that?!) - she suits it, being small with lovely dark eyes. But I don't think I like it as a name more generally, iyswim.

Gincognito · 21/11/2011 22:46

Love it.

nooka · 22/11/2011 02:22

Now Idris is a fantastic name Grin
