Anyone fancy the name Wren for a girl?

Just a thought really and I realise it's prob a name people would either love or hate but a friend of friend's just named her baby girl wren and I thought it may inspire some of you expecting a girl?
Have to say I'm so taken with it, if I had another DD, (already have 3!) I would quite possibly choose it! I'm currently preg with no.4 and last though and it's a boy so won't get to use it!
Anyway, just food for thought for some of you maybe??? :)

Like it, my DD is called Ren. It means lotus flower.

Wordsonapage · 22/11/2011 06:07

I sort of agree though possibly not as stridently with Heng...

wren think of as weak and spindly , delicate and needs to be looked after

I Want a dd who ROARS not chirps.

SoupDragon · 22/11/2011 07:07

What if you don't get a DD who roars? Not everyone does - male or female.

Wordsonapage · 22/11/2011 07:10

Considering dds parentage Roaring is pretty much a given.

it's more I am woman hear me roar

than yelling like a lion

SoupDragon · 22/11/2011 07:23

Lets hope she doesn't disappoint then.

Wordsonapage · 22/11/2011 07:28
Confused

bit odd erm but I'm sure she'll be just fine thank you.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 22/11/2011 07:41

Dreadful.

exoticfruits · 22/11/2011 07:51

Sounds as if she is part of the Navy.

katiecubs · 22/11/2011 10:36

The Wren - is the commonest bird in Britain.

I know one and that's what we say to her when she is tarted up for a night out Grin

Idris Shock

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 22/11/2011 13:51

I like Wren and Robin for a girl but DH vetoed them both.

strawberryicecream · 22/11/2011 14:03

to be pedantic, aren't the bird (nick)names Robin Redbreast and Jenny Wren, so Jenny would be the equivalent of Robin, Wren would be the equivalent of Redbreast?

I wouldn't call a child sparrow, or chaffinch, or pigeon, or woodpecker, so probably not wren (also makes me think of the WW2 navy connection too).

MamaLazarou · 22/11/2011 14:21

Wren and Stimpy - sorry.

serin · 23/11/2011 23:19

Stamps feet, flaps wings, Serins sing better.

(Swoon at Idris!)

ViviPru · 24/11/2011 08:33

'Ser I n' oooh.... the perfect antidote to the inevitable ubiquitousness of 'Seren'

DandyDan · 24/11/2011 18:24

Cute name.
Tom and Hester's daugher is called Wren in Philip Reeve's Mortal Engines quartet .

Dialsmavis · 25/11/2011 12:44

Mamalazarou you gave me the idea for a Stimpy toy for my friends little Wren for christmas. BF would love it, unfortunately they are ££££

mathanxiety · 26/11/2011 00:10

DD2 used to roar like a lion during her Lion King II phase (aged 3 to 5). She would climb onto the arm of the couch as if it was Pride Rock and roar for a while...

complexnumber · 27/11/2011 18:32

My brother once met two American girls called Robin and Wren. He commented on the coincidence of them both being named after birds and Wren did this face Confused she didn't know a wren is a bird. I don't know where she thought her name came from.

Sony1234 · 13/11/2019 22:27

Wren can be used for boys as well it is used
a lot in USA and also in Ireland

user1493494961 · 13/11/2019 22:41

I think it's a plain and insignificant name, a bit like the bird.

tripletmum8 · 13/11/2019 22:48

Lovely name, I know a Wren (nearly 1) who suits her name so much, she has really chubby arms and legs and big brown eyes, and has recently started copying her mum signing so it is the perfect name for her.

I liked it but DH wouldn’t even consider.

ZOMBIE THREAD

MikeUniformMike · 14/11/2019 08:58

No. You might use Robin or Jay but they are diminutives of other names.

You wouldn't call a baby Owl or Chaffinch or something.

Linnet is pretty.
