Can I have a Josephine if I already have a Joseph

I am expecting DC4. dc 1 is Joseph and will be 11 when baby arrives. He would be quite chuffed at the moment I know but whether that would wear off as he got older I don't know. I love both names and in my head they are totally different . NN for Josephine would be Posy so actually day to day would not be the same name. Could this ever be ok. Do you know any siblings with similar names.

No

No - they are essentially the same name.

Find another name that enables you to have Posy as a NN

NotMostPeople · 15/11/2011 21:44

No, don't be silly.

thisisyesterday · 15/11/2011 21:45

you know what? I think a lot of people will talk about it. a lot may comment on it.
you will get a lot of "not very original" comments,

but if you LOVE the name, and if that's what you want to use then do it! it's not really that big a deal, and like you say if you're using Posy as a day-to-day name most people won't even realise.

although, why not just use Posy?

marianhalcombe · 15/11/2011 21:46

No

ShutUppaYourFace · 15/11/2011 21:46

Not really! However I know exactly what you mean, it reminds me of a thread I started asking if I could use Eve when I already had an Adam Grin
As it happens I got 3 gorgeous boys and also have a Joseph.

LOVE Josephine though...

ElaineReese · 15/11/2011 21:47

No, it sounds as though you are obsessed with the name Joseph - or I mean, it will to people.

For the same reason, I ruled out a boy version of my name for either of my girls, if they'd been boys.

If you like Posy, go with a Rose-based name, maybe? Rosamund, Rosemary, Rosalind, or something.

No, just call her Posy or think of another name Posy can be short for. Persephone?

curatesegg · 15/11/2011 21:50

that's a no then?

I know a Charlie who has a half sister (same dad) called Charlotte. I find it odd -she could end up getting Charlie as a nn by her friends. They do live in different countries though. Did make me think new wife (charlie's mum) is in some kind of denial about first wife/child. This could of course be v wide of the mark (and your situation is different) but I think the risk of using similar names is people will think it odd and try to come up with some kind of psychological explanation. Which of course you may not care about.

If I were you I would try to come up with a different name that posy could be a nn for. Persephone?

whatdoiknowanyway · 15/11/2011 21:52

I was one of 4 siblings whose name all began with the same letter.
My name is a feminine form of my father's name.
The opportunities for misdelivered mail, wrongly taken phone calls was horrendous. Don't do it, please!

EssentialFattyAcid · 15/11/2011 21:54

Just call her posy, it's a name on it's own and certainly is not an obvious nickname for Josephine. Having a Joseph and a Josephine is ok if the other 2 are called Thing 1 & Thing 2.

Calling yourself Josephine would be preferable or even name a pet or a doll instead to get it out of your system?

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 15/11/2011 21:54

No, just as I could not have had a Ruben (my favourite boys name) after I'd had a Ruby.

TeWihara · 15/11/2011 21:55

No.

I know a Charlotte and a Charles full sibs - they're adults now. One had massive self-esteem issues about the fact that their name had been used twice (ie, felt parents didn't choose a 'new' name for second child, because second child was gender they would have preferred)

They were also both nicknamed Charlie which was horribly confusing.

smother · 15/11/2011 22:00

would you have a ......

Henrietta if you had a Henry?
Nigella if you had a Nigel?
Samantha if you had a Samual?
Thomasina if you had a Thomas?
Jacqueline if you had a Jack?

I could go on!

LaFilleSurLePont · 15/11/2011 22:01

Definitely not.

HerdOfTinyElephants · 15/11/2011 22:01

No. Just go with Posy, or an alternative long form (the only one that springs to mind is Persephone, but there must be others)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/11/2011 22:02

No - daft.

But Posy is a lovely name (I wanted it for dd2 but dp refused outright!) so why don't you just call her Posy?

CrotchFlakes · 15/11/2011 22:02

No.

Find something else you can use Posy as a nickname for.
