Can I have a Josephine if I already have a Joseph

I am expecting DC4. dc 1 is Joseph and will be 11 when baby arrives. He would be quite chuffed at the moment I know but whether that would wear off as he got older I don't know. I love both names and in my head they are totally different . NN for Josephine would be Posy so actually day to day would not be the same name. Could this ever be ok. Do you know any siblings with similar names.

I agree with jacky that this has been a helpful thread. We may not have all reached the same endpoint but hopefully we all madde the right decision for us at the time. Good look everyone else going through this. X

iloveberries · 16/11/2011 12:13

just call her posy! such a sweet name.

I was given a 'big name' with my actual name as a nickname and it's really annoying as essentially my name (on all official docs) isn't my name!

Name the child what you want to call them - Posy, it's LOVELY :)

You can call your baby whatever you want but no matter what, i guarantee people will comment if you have a joseph and josephine!

seeker · 16/11/2011 12:16

No you can't. Don't be silly.

Diamondwhite · 16/11/2011 12:24

Oops sorry wrong thread!

As as asides I have an Oliver and love the names olive and ottiliie for this baby. It's not going to happen though!

Trills · 16/11/2011 12:32

You can - but a lot of people will think it is weird.

ragged · 16/11/2011 12:36

Lots of people do it, I know families with Denise & Dennis, David & Davina, or Maria & Mario. I think it's weird.

munstersmum · 16/11/2011 12:36

Just in case you have a last minute waver - it's a no.

Lovethesea · 16/11/2011 14:15

No. No. No. And just No.

(And if you were considering just Posy as a name and wanted opinions .... I'd say No there too. Just too twee and dainty for a potential astronaut.)

winterland · 16/11/2011 15:18

hmm, dont think so. I like Posy though..

3isamagicnumber · 16/11/2011 15:42

I'd say no.

Ephiny · 16/11/2011 15:56

No, it's far too similar. What if she doesn't want to be 'Posy' once she's old enough to have an opinion on it (I'm sure I wouldn't!)

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 16/11/2011 16:05

NO!

mathanxiety · 16/11/2011 16:49

Yes!

No, just joking. I have cousins who have names along the same lines and it always raises an eyebrow.

mathanxiety · 16/11/2011 16:51

Would you like Clementine? Same number of syllables and -ine ending, same sort of name imo..

seren82 · 16/11/2011 18:37

I used to teach twins called Henry and Henrietta. They had triplet brothers called something like Darren, Denzil and Deneil. Honestly! Don't call your children Joseph and Josephine though. Definitely not!

sparkleshine · 16/11/2011 20:35

Another NO here.
I know of an older man who is called George, he named his daughter Georgina (after himself, ok so fair enough), then when they unexpectedly had a son, called him George.
Well we did laugh at his originality and of course how up himself he must be. Wonder what the wife thought though.

RonnieBirtles · 16/11/2011 20:38

It would be weird. No.

girliefriend · 16/11/2011 20:41

No

I knew someone who had a Ronnie and Rona and secretly did this Grin everytime she talked about them!!!

pilates · 16/11/2011 20:59

No very odd

Plonker · 16/11/2011 21:07

Can you? Yes. You can call your children whatever you want.

Should you? No! Bloody daft idea!

MitziKinsky · 16/11/2011 21:09

No, you can't.

When your descendants check our their family tree they will think you were bonkers.

triskaidekaphile · 16/11/2011 21:13

no! Of course you can't.

Call her Petrova after the coolest Fossil sister.

pranma · 16/11/2011 21:52

I dont see why not if you love the name-I love it too :) I think Posy is a lovely nn too.I have a Joanna and often wish I had gone for Josephine instead.

DriverDan · 16/11/2011 22:49

In real life I know full siblings called
Michael and Michelle
and
Jay and Jayne

People will think it's weird. But, in all fairness, these sibling sets seem alright! I pointed out the Jay/Jayne thing to a mutual friend of both and they had never even noticed!

lurkinginthebackground · 17/11/2011 22:57

No.
