Rubber - sorry!

MelinaM · 09/10/2011 23:49

I love it too, but do prefer the spelling Johnny! My friends DS is John nn Johnny it suits him perfectly! ...and works for an adult tooSmile

levantine · 09/10/2011 23:55

Love it

MrsMilton · 10/10/2011 09:19

Love it - but it looks weird without the "h" to me. And the "ie" spelling seems rather feminine. The best spelling is Johnny. Adorable on a baby.

scaevola I think that's a generational thing. It wouldn't mean that to many people any more.

MrsMilton · 10/10/2011 09:21

Just realised you might be using it as a nn for Jonathan, in which case I guess you wouldn't use the "h". For John, you would. Go for John - I've always thought Jonathan is a funny name... like an unnecessarily long-winded way of saying John.

EdithWeston · 10/10/2011 09:26

Rubber to me too.

It's a very common association to parent-age people, and easily discoverable at any age.

seeker · 10/10/2011 09:29

Possibly as a nickname. But the rubber thing is a concern. And it's not a name for an adult man!

Wurg · 10/10/2011 09:29

it's one of those 'perfect' names. Jonny is cute for a baby, cheeky and cool for a teen and Jonathan is the option if he turns out to need a formal 'career' name.

TipOfTheSlung · 10/10/2011 09:30

I would go for Jonathan or John with Jonny or Johnny depenedent.
Johnny Depp is John, Jonny wilkinson is Jonathan. Neither get associated with condoms

GirlBabs · 10/10/2011 09:31

I think of a rubber Jonny I'm afraid. I really dislike Jonathan as it's so wet but I like John and Jonty.

shoobidoo · 10/10/2011 11:53

Rubber Confused

pilates · 10/10/2011 12:24

Like it as a nn for Jonathan/Jonty.

TipOfTheSlung · 10/10/2011 15:37

Jonty is a diminutive itself

DramaInPyjamas · 10/10/2011 15:55

I like it, but like it better with an H

mybootsaremuddy · 10/10/2011 19:52

I have a 17mth old Jonathan nn Johnny or Johnno. He started out as Jonty but Johnny just seemed to fit better. Think it looks more 'finished' with the h.

two4one · 10/10/2011 20:43

Absolutely love Johnny (it has to have an "h" though for me, I think it looks funny without) but please do stop posting about it, I'm trying to keep it to myself! I fear it will get very popular soon as everyone searches for that elusive name, which is uncommon yet not unusual. I think it's a brilliant diminutive of a very good strong b.cert name, John. I know a little toddler Johnny and he is beautiful, really suits it. Don't know any others and don't want to so ssshhhhhh! Wink

TCOB · 10/10/2011 20:48

Love it. Agree with having it as the 'nickname' rather than the birth ceritificate name though; also keeps his options open when he becomes an MP/ Nobel Peace Prize winner etc. DD would have been John, another gorgeous and grossly underused name had she been a boy. In fact. love it so much was still tempted when she came out a girl... Smile.

mrsm123 · 10/10/2011 20:49

my best friend named her little boy Jonny. She is a lovely mum and he's gorgeous, it really suits him.
Plus, i just think of Jonny out of Dirty Dancing when i hear that name, you can't go wrong with a name like that.

cece · 10/10/2011 21:34

Thank you . Will use Jonathan with Jonny as nn. Can't put h in as there isn't one in Jonathan...

NormanBatesTheForeman · 10/10/2011 21:37

We have a Jonathan. He is sometimes called Jonny by his friends, or Jonty or Jonno. He could also be a Jon, but nobody ever calls him that. He prefers Jonathan or Jonty, but doesn't mind too much.

I think that Jonathan with options of shortened forms would be the most versatile. It's a great name!

cece · 10/10/2011 21:38

I agree!

birdofthenorth · 11/10/2011 16:27

Jonathan nn Jonny is fabulous. We have a Jonathan in our family and he is Jonny 95% of the time but also Jont, Jonty, and the full Jonathan

Youremindmeofthebabe · 11/10/2011 17:06

I am laughing at it not being a name for an adult man.. My dp Jonny is an adult man. Jonathan is his Sunday name that his mother calls him, he uses Jon at work, and his friends mainly call him Jonny.
