Victoria - really torn

Some days I love it
Others I think it is just a blurgh.

Think part of it is that I don't really like Vicky as a nn and couldn't bring myself to ever call a DC Tori.

I think it's a lovely name (but still wouldn't use it if your surname begins with a "D").

Vita is a short form of Victoria, much nicer than Vicky, Tori etc...

I know a Victoria who is Victoria only. Never been a Vicky. Vic for short. She doesn't like her name. Too strong and confuses people re Victoria/Vicky!

My best friend is Victoria and everyone only calls her Victoria (but at work they call her Queenie ) I love it!

Lovely name but it will get shortened -unless she really doesn't want it shortened and is tough on it.

I come from a area where every name gets shortered (even to a single letter) and I don't like Vicky/Vic. So I would have to have a nn I did like to call her so people would use that/or even shortened version of nn.

I might have to throw it in the bin then, and start again .

name changed just for this post! THought you might like to hear from an actual Victoria. As a child I hated, hated, hated it, and insisted on being Vicky. It just wasn't cool - as as kid I was surrounded by Nicola's, Helen's, Karen's, Claires, Lucy's, Becky's, Sarah's etc and I felt my name was very stuffy in comparison (I know!!) People do also call me Vic, Vix, Viccus or even Queen Vic. I don't really like Vicky, but I'm stuck with it - I do now actually see that Victoria is a pretty/classy name and understand why my parents chose it. It's too late now to start insisting people call me Victoria. I do wish my parents had been more forceful in making sure I was known as Victoria.

I'm a Victoria and really like my name! My family call me Victoria. Secondary school I became a Vicki. And from Uni onwards I'm a definite Vix. It's a beautiful, strong, timeless name and has many nn potentials. What about Ria?

She will get Vicky/Vicki and may even choose to be that herself!

It's a great name but to be honest I don't like any of the nns really. If you feel that way too, maybe think of something else...

I'm a Victoria too, and am eternally grateful to my parents for giving me a timeless, classy name. I've always been Tori to my parents, Vicky at secondary school (which I now hate, so common), Victoria to colleagues and Vics to close friends. One friend calls me Toria, which I adore.

I am a Victoria as well. I like the name but not the nns tbh. My family call me Vicky/Vicks but from about 20-ish I introduced myself as Victoria so now most of my friends and all colleagues etc call me that, with a few exceptions of friends I met before that age. I think the problem is that I would like to have a short form I felt comfortable with as Victoria is quite formal; but I really dislike Vicky. Some Victorias are Tory/Vita which I wouldn't have minded but no one's ever called me those.

Overall a good name but if you want her to be definitely Victoria (not Vicky/Tori etc) you'll have to insist on it I think.

I love Victoria. Tis my name should this bump be pink. I love Plum as nn but dh hates it (altho may ignore him tbh). Tori is cute as is Queenie.

I hate Vicki but that is what I get. It's ok though

I love my name and my parents called me it because they could not have children and when they got me they saw it as a 'victory'

Not that it matters to you but personally I don't like Victoria for the same reason I don't like Elizabeth or Charlotte... I see it as prissy, trying to be posh and no good shortened versions. Sorry!

I have a friend called Victoria, who shortens to Toria. I like that as a nickname, not so keen on Vicky, due to the myriad of spellings: Vicky, Vicki, Viki etc.

I'm a Victoria (mum says it's because I was round and purple when I was born, like a Victoria Plum). I love the name, and gave it to DD2 as a middle name.

I became Vicky at secondary school and that has stuck ever since, but I really wish I had stayed with Victoria. I also answer to Vix, Vic etc. which is fine.

But I can't bear it if people spell my name Vicki, Vikki, Vickie, or any other twee diminutive; that's my only grumble.

I really like it. Tory is good nickname, or just Vee. Anyway it's different when the name grows around the person, don't worry!

I don't really like it, I don't think of it as classy, just a bit naff. Maybe that's because I'm a child of the 80s though when Victoria plum was all the rage

I have a 9yo Victoria, it's a cool name. She's never been called Vicky, either by us or anyone else. She says occasionally a supply teacher who doesn't know her will call her Vicky "but I tell them I don't like it, and they don't do it again."

She gets called Toria for short, or Vika which is the Russian/E.European short form. Vita is nice as well.
