When you see/hear Marley are you more inclined to think boy/girl?
My partner says girl, I say boy.
It's been described as male, female and unisex on various websites and is currently more popular as a girls name. Not sure if it's just the Bob Marley reference that makes me think boy? I don't want this thread to turn into an argument about who's right or wrong, or how it's used in other countries, origin etc. Just opinions on how it sounds please.

I think of it as a dog's name after that film. Secondly a boy's name. never a girls name

My mums middle name is Marley....I'm pretty sure she's a girl

I'm not bothered bout the dog thing. Was a terrible film/book and will be forgotten in a few years time. Would definitely think Bob before dog though I find that very odd!

I think Marlie is reasonably common in the US for a girl. I like it a lot had it on my list.

The human Marley I know of is male and a pain in the ass. I often hear "Marley, you little fucker, stop ...."

I personally know 2 dogs called Marley, both boys and both Border Collies.

Both. I think of it as a unisex name. I like it.

Again, the dog thing wouldn't put me off, I know several dogs called Lucy, Jake, Dylan etc and lots of cats called Oscar and Bella. I think it's just more common these days for pet owners to give their animals human names.

Only ever known one Marley, a boy. Seemed like a very cute name as baby/toddler/small boy. Sounds kind of different now he's a teenager and he doesn't like the name.

Marley: boy. Dad probably a Bob Marley fan. I quite like it.

Marlie: middle-aged to elderly woman,probably short for Marlene.

Hmmm now you've mentioned Marlene I'm leaning towards girl.....dammit! Don't know if I like the 'ie' spelling though.

Boy.Definitely boy. It's a gorgeous name.

I only know a little boy Marley, but I don't think it would sound odd as either gender. (he is a lovely child too!)

Great name for a boy that should read.

Bob Marley fans who decided to call their child after their hero but Bob was a bit pedestrian. OR the ghost in Scrooge, OR that ghastly film/book, OR a NN for Marlene.

I know 4! I think it's going to be a very popular littleboys name. I like but have been put off a bit as u think it's going to be the new "Ellie-mae" iyswim
