I couldnt find any discussion on here about the name Lorne. It's a Scottish boys name. I think it's lovely, what do you think?

How is it pronounced? Have to say that I thought it was a girl's name when I read the thread title.

peggyblackett · 30/08/2011 07:19

It makes me think of Lorne sausage...mmmmm.

bittentothequick · 30/08/2011 07:44

I liked it when reading a name book when I was pregnant, but DH wrinkled his nose at it and I completely forgot about it!

I still like it now anyway.

bittentothequick · 30/08/2011 07:47

My book says it may be Canadian in origin.

tothemoonandback · 30/08/2011 07:47

Isn't it the name of that woman who presents Cash in the Attic who wears far too much slap? Lovely name btw.

PIMSoclock · 30/08/2011 07:48

Another lorne sausage fan here Grin

tabulahrasa · 30/08/2011 07:52

Quite irrationaly, I like it without the e, but not so much with, lol

Cereal · 30/08/2011 09:41

I assumed it was a girls' name, like a variant of Lorna.

autobahnbismark · 30/08/2011 09:44

Sorry - also makes me think of the variety of sausage

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 30/08/2011 09:49

Sausage here too. I have met a bloke with this name though. I got over the sausage association fairly quickly.

HengshanRoad · 30/08/2011 12:43

Lawn.

weegiemum · 30/08/2011 12:47

As in the Firth of Lorn, Oban?

Better without the 'e' I think, but like ++

ellangirl · 30/08/2011 13:08

I have a relation called this, but the family was from that area of scotland (weegiemum it is often spelt Firth of Lorne too, though I believe the 'official' form is without the e as you say). I think it's a lovely name.

PedigreeChump · 30/08/2011 13:12

I should like it, it is in the category of names I love, but the sausage connection is just too strong for me!

spiderlight · 30/08/2011 15:35

It's OK. DH's brother is a Lorne, but he only ended up with the name because their mum was sure he was going to be a girl and had her heart set on 'Lorna' :o

nellyjane · 30/08/2011 15:37

I know a Lorne. She's a woman...

AberdeenAngusina · 30/08/2011 21:55

I know two, one in his forties and one in his teens. Both named because of family associations with the Firth of Lorne.

poppyknot · 30/08/2011 22:04

Queen Victoria's daughter Louise married the Marquess of Lorne. They went to Canada, hence probably the Canadian connection. Also the family name was Campbell and I think that it goes very well with that surname!

I was a bit into QV when I was about 12 and the name Lorne really rang a bell...

AberdeenAngusina · 30/08/2011 22:07

Ooooh, poppyknot, ...one of the Lornes I know (or knew- haven't seen him since we left school 30 years ago) was a Lorne Campbell.

The teenage one also has a Scottish surname.

Like Lorne Greene from Bonanza. I like it, its nice like Linus, a name I love but husband associates it with Peanuts and we had 3 girls Grin

SillyAssBlack · 30/08/2011 22:11

It's the name of a really nice character on the TV show Angel, and apart from that I still think it's a very nice name :)

willowstar · 30/08/2011 22:15

sausage...sorry but that is the first thing I think about. Never heard it used in any other context.

MrsEricBana · 30/08/2011 22:16

Yes (showing age), immed thought of Lorne Greene (poss not the best name if your surname is Greene though!). Lovely name and I did think boy not girl.

MrsEricBana · 30/08/2011 22:16
