Calling all teachers...which names would you NOT choose as a result of teaching brats over the years?

Just curious really as after DS was born (named Sam) teacher friends of ours commented that they'd only ever taught "nice Sams".

I was just interested to know (now that we are choosing a name for DC2!) if there are specific first names that you know spell trouble....

Ilikepinkwine · 29/08/2011 11:36

I don't teach brats, I teach children.

UrsulaBuffayHere2Help · 29/08/2011 11:44

This will end in tears.

DriverDan · 29/08/2011 12:16

Haha! That sounds like my Holly! Good luck to her reception teachers next month Grin

EverythingsNotRosie · 29/08/2011 13:55

Completely agree with Holly and Anna description! Names to avoid in my book are anything beginning with J- the most difficult class I've taught had Jack, Jake, Jordan, Joe, Jason, Jasmin, Junior and Jade- all hard work! And Liam, at school we refer to 'all the Liams' when describing past naughty ones. Have only taught lovely Sophies and Emilys though.

vividgingerchilli · 29/08/2011 14:18

Viktor would make me wonder if you were Eastern European, Logan would make me wonder if it was a boy or girl as I've known both boy and girl Logans.

vividgingerchilli · 29/08/2011 14:19

Holly and Anna would be fine, Holly slightly more mischievous than Anna but in a nice way.

vividgingerchilli · 29/08/2011 14:21

PrincessJenga, I agree about making it hard to choose names, my two have got names that are unusual but not weird, I've never taught a DC with the same name as my two though I have come across a handful of them.

What a nasty thread

Brats?

vividgingerchilli · 29/08/2011 14:31

I don't think the thread is nasty, but I do think it is very nasty if somebody working in education refers to the children as brats.
I treat the children I work with in the same way that I hope my DCs are treated by their teachers and TAs.

LittleDoe · 29/08/2011 15:31

Sorry, bad choice of word, I just meant "more troublesome". Wasn't meant to be nasty - I just wondered if certain names spelt trouble more than others.

Sorry for causing any offence.

The thing is, both one of the nicest, & absolutely the nastiest, girls I ever taught were called Paige.

Evil Paige was a total sociopath who left 6 years ago.

Lovely bright, kind, bubbly Paige left this year. With a 'two grades above target' A* in my subject.

& there have been loads of other perfectly pleasant Paiges over the years.

But if you told me your baby dd was to be called Paige, I'd say 'oh how nice' whilst still privately hearing The Exorcist theme...

It's the horrors who leave the deepest impression!

pamplemousserose · 29/08/2011 16:23

Kyle
Jeremy
Oscar
Shannon
Keira

ragged · 29/08/2011 19:14

Tis a shame, I have known so many perfectly nice Liams.
Thank goodness none of DC names on here, lol

Moulesfrites · 29/08/2011 19:47

Three of the naughtiest girls I ever taught were called Sophie and Emily and Abigail, which I think of as typically middle class names.

Connors and Callums are generally PITAs.

mumnosbest · 30/08/2011 19:53

Connor and Jake - ur just asking for trouble. On a more positive note, Sophies and Elliotts have always been lovely.

acsec · 30/08/2011 20:09

I have seen quite a few of the 'naughty' names that I have come across on this thread so far and DP's DS's name!

FlubbaBubba · 30/08/2011 20:11

Yes, yes, yes to;
Callum
Liam
Connor
Ashley

and also to;
Ashleigh
Becky
Aisha

always, always, always naughty (and that's also consulted with DH who is also a teacher) ! :)

beckybrastraps · 30/08/2011 20:12

None. Really. I haven't taught that many irredeemably awful children, and have taught enough that very few names are a one off. Well, actually quite a few one offs, but I'm not one for a unique name myself...

beckybrastraps · 30/08/2011 20:13

And some of the naughtiest children I have taught have definitely been middle class...

Oakmaiden · 30/08/2011 20:15

Callum
Louis
