I think I like it but am hormonal bag and can't be trusted with these things, I think I like Anya Grace.

I really like India, Annabelle and Arabella but they're all becoming a little bit too popular or so i'm told Confused we don't know any.

Not sure of sex so will be back with boys names.

Potatoes can be graded 1-10, where 1 is waxy and 10 is floury. Here are some common potato varieties and their grade.

Anya: 6 (slightly floury).
Cara: 3 (more waxy)
Charlotte: 4 (slightly waxy)
Desiree: 5 (all-rounder)
Golden Wonder: 9 (very floury)
King Edward: 6 (all-rounder)
Pink Fir Apple: 3 (slightly waxy)
Maris Piper: 5 (all-rounder)
Rocket: 4 (slightly waxy)

makes me think of anyanka - from buffy who was called anya

i miss buffy

It has nothing to do with Sainsburys - it is a general name for a type of potato.

I wonder why nobody mentions potato when Charlotte comes up Hmm

I suppose if you are female and going to be called after a potato then you should at least be a level 6 floury potato.

Yeah why does nobody say that for Charlotte or Cara, slightly discriminatory don't you think!

Although i suppose in a child like a potato maybe an all rounder should be what your aiming for.

Funny how people think sainsbury's has given a potato a name. Like a marketing thing.

Do people also think that about Pink Lady apples and SOnata strawberries?

I like Anya, though I would spell it Anja. Spud for short.

Nadine, Winston, Rudolph, Juliette, Annabelle, Orla, Maxine and Duke of York are all potatoes too.

On balance it seems potatoes are predominantly female! :o

And if Sainsburys named the spud an anya would the same one be called an Araminta at Waitrose?

DH has rocked up and decided he dislikes Anya, god he is difficult. He is fixated with Jessamine and Roman. Not to keen on either or rather the nn jess and ro.

I could have written your OP :)
We're also thinking of Anya. It's the only name DH and I have agreed we don't hate. (We've been arguing about a boys name for nearly 5 years, we had a DD, still not agreed on a boys name.)

DD's name we loved instantly the minute we mentioned it. It's very unusual and very relevant for us.
The only thing making me doubt Anya is we don't love it in the way we did with DD's name. It's also much more common than I thought it would be. My name is at 1000+ on the statistics for last year and DD's is 4000+. :o

I've met 2 Anya's, both were really nice girls/women.

I'm a huge Buffy fan too, but I'd just call her Anyanka when she's being naughty. :o

It was grown in Scotland exclusively for sainsburys and is named after Anya Lindon who is married to John sainsburys ( he's the president of sainsburys)

Odd isn't it, of all the things she could have named after her she chose a potato,

My names cara and I didn't know that was a potato till today, I've managed to get to my mid30's without someone shouting potato at me so don't think it matters

You could spell it Ania. I have a polish auntie called Ania. I like it.

Arshia, love it or hate it?
My husband decided Arshia for our daughter name but I'm still confused.

Confused

Why don't you start a thread of your own, instead of bumping an ancient, zombie thread?

I love Anya and we are considering it for our DD, due in a couple of months.

I had no idea about the Sainsbo potato issue and wouldn't be put off by that.

I am a big Buffy fan (as is DH) so we are aware of the Buffy connection . . . But we're OK with it because on the whole the Anya in Buffy is an awesome demon!! Grin

we have an anya in our family and although i'm biased i love it and suggested it when i overheard someone calling their dd it in a restaurant.

the anya i know is beautiful, funny, entertaining, loving, strong willed and pretty much in her own little world most of the time!
