Is this too "out there" for a name?

Maverick.

It could be a boy or a girl, but this would suit either, right?

I think it sounds cool :o

Sbob · 05/08/2011 21:13

Should have said, prefer more for a boy though!

BuckminsterFullerene · 05/08/2011 21:17

Now, I'm normally a "call him/her what you like and don't be told otherwise" kind of person, but I'm not sure about 'Maverick'.

Oh, hell, I'd love to see 'Maverick' on my list of new year 7s! And most of all, I'd love it to be a really confidently academic child!

HairyButtMonkey · 05/08/2011 21:17

Or maybe Iceman? Goose?

LemonDifficult · 05/08/2011 21:18

What if he/she wants to fit in and live a quiet life? That's some name to live up to.

MelinaM · 05/08/2011 21:26

I think it's more for a boy than a girl, I suppose it works!

EdithWeston · 05/08/2011 21:36

It makes me think if the 1950s telly series and 1990s film. I'd assume you were all huge spaghetti Western afficionados.

MmeLindor. · 05/08/2011 22:10

Hmm. What if he/she is a quiet, obedient little soul?

TheOriginalFAB · 05/08/2011 22:12

My neighbours dog is called Maverick and he is Grin.

InstantAtom · 05/08/2011 22:12

If you're about to give birth to Tom Cruise's character in Top Gun, fine.

Otherwise no.

Beamur · 05/08/2011 22:12

Tom Cruise in Top Gun...?

Beamur · 05/08/2011 22:13

x-post with InstantAtom Grin

PatriciaHolm · 05/08/2011 22:15

It would suit a boy dog, yes.

MirandaGoshawk · 05/08/2011 22:23

It's not really a name, though, is it? More a veiled insult. The bosses at my DH's work have called him this in the past, when they really wanted to say that he's a PITA who won't do as he's told Grin

beanlet · 05/08/2011 22:27

Oh FFS.

IssyStark · 05/08/2011 22:30

Is it too out there?

Yes.

Remember David Bowie's son, Zowie Bowie? He's now called Duncan Jones.

munstersmum · 05/08/2011 22:30

Think it depends on whether in any way fits with your surname. Maverick Smith - not so good. Maverick Magazinedealpending not such a surprise.

piecederesistance · 05/08/2011 22:51

It's Jones, so it will go really well, I reckon. And DH and I are both creatives, so I think he/she would carry it off.

Mavrick sounds more namey

I couldn't think of any girls ones. Can't really see it as a girls name at all tbh

MadameLupino · 06/08/2011 00:04

I can see what you're trying to express but I think it's too tied up with Top Gun. How about Renegade? Or Strider?

I do like Merrick, but wasn't that the Elephant Man? I'd probably have to wait and see what the baby looks like.

I would expect to see the Seventh Cavalry appearing in a cloud of dust on the horizon just in the nick of time.
