I love, tried to persuade friends to use it, he was keen she wasn't so.

Tidey · 26/07/2011 20:27

Ooh, tricky. My first thought was 'body being dragged along by a chariot', swiftly followed by 'nice Scottish name'. So erm... I'm not sure.

Likesshinythings · 26/07/2011 20:31

Love it and wanted it for DS but DH was having none of it. Even had a last ditch attempt to persuade him whilst in labour (thought he may give in under the circumstances) but nothing doing!

missmiss · 26/07/2011 20:37

I love it. I am a Classicist, though, so may be biased!

LetThereBeRock · 26/07/2011 20:37

No,it's horrid, and it's also a verb that means to behave like a bully.

fishandlilacs · 26/07/2011 20:38

Love it, the right balance of familiar yet unusual/uncommon that I really like.

BunnyP · 26/07/2011 20:40

Oh thank you for your comments. It's a name that my husband and I have always adored. The only time I made an error was when I told a table of friends that we were thinking of calling our child 'Hercules'. There was stunned silence until the error was realised!

.....was the first of the gang with a gun in his hand?

I like it as a name. Dunno who sang the song but i know the song.

ginaribena · 26/07/2011 20:50

Great, strong classic name for a boy - he'll always stand out from the crowd with a name like that. When I picked my sons names I tried to imagine how they would grow with the name. What does it mean?

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 26/07/2011 21:08

I'm afraid I'm of the generation who just think, "Silly old Hector!" but we're getting quite old now...

doesntfitin · 26/07/2011 21:10

Its bloody awful

please don't ,poor child

EdithWeston · 26/07/2011 21:13

Lovely name!

Plenty of other names are verbs too - Harry, Nick, Mark, Rose - don't be put off.

Greenwing · 26/07/2011 23:04

Hector is OK as a Trojan hero, but the verb 'to hector' makes it a big NO for me: Dictionary says it is' to intimidate or harass by bluster or personal pressure'.

BibiBelle · 26/07/2011 23:07

Lonnie · 26/07/2011 23:22

Makes me think of this guy, very funny man.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 26/07/2011 23:50

I tried to persuade DH (because of the song) - but he was having none of it.

freerangeeggs · 27/07/2011 00:37

I know a little Hector and it is awesome on him. When I first heard the name choice I was a bit like this Hmm but now I think it's fantastic and quirky.

AlpinePony · 27/07/2011 12:12
