Short list is:

Francesca/Cesca
Elisabeth/Elsie
Charlotte/Lottie

...but each one has its pros and cons (DH likes one more, I like another more, DH doesn't like one of the nicknames, we have a close friend with a child called one of them etc etc).

Siblings are Lucia, Elijah and Clementine.

Comments? Fab new ideas?

How about:-

Emmeline nn Emmy
Jessica nn Jess/Jessie
Madeline nn Maddy

Astrophe · 22/07/2011 13:33

Couldn't have an 'emmy', and we have a 'clemmie'! Not so keen on Jessica or madeline - both are uber common (as in, many of them) 'round here too.

Am thinking of Adelaide/Addy/Dilly...

Isla
Rheya

Just a couple more to confuse you! Good luck.

I'm overthinking it to the point where I don't like any of the original list anymore (well, I do like them, just a bit over them I guess!).

Now I'm thinking Adelaide. DH is mulling it over but not loving it (yet!?). I'm not sure whether to push it - maybe I am just clutching at straws? I don't want to make a bad choice in a fit of hormones!

Am 40+1 now...better hope she stays put until we can decide!

Sorry but I don't like Adelaide as it's a place name and reminds me of Neighbours.

Elsie and Florence are both lovely names :) How about Elisabeth Florence or Florence Elisabeth?

DessertsInReverse · 28/07/2011 08:43

adelaide is lovely . yes it's a place name but the the place was named after queen adelaide wife of william IV . not sure most people would immediately think of neighbours .

Astrophe · 28/07/2011 11:27

Neighbours is set in Melbourne :)

Still thinking...stress!!!!!!

It's in Melbourne but the characters do talk about Adelaide. If I see the word Adelaide, I hear it spoken in an Australian accent I'm afraid! However if you like the name then go for it :)

Alternatively how about Adele or Adela?

Astrophe · 29/07/2011 01:59

And what could possibly be wrong with an Australian accent!? (I'm Australian...live in Sydney!) :)

I love the name Francesca.

I've never heard of 'Cesca' and to be honest I don't really like it. Can I ask, is it pronounced 'Sessca' or 'Chesca'? Just curious.

Your other kids' names are lovely, and I really like all of the names on your shortlist. Francesca would be my favourite formal name of them all, but Cesca my least favourite nickname. I do love Francie or Frankie though.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 29/07/2011 02:14

I don't think you can have an Adelaide if you live in Australia, really. I had exactly this debate with a Newcastle friend the other day, anywhere else in the world Adelaide would just be a lovely Germanic name, but in Australia it'll always be the city. I would feel exactly the same about a little Sydney.

Francesca is lovely. When she's little she can be Frankie or Cesca or Chess, she might end up as a Fran when she's older but by then you probably won't care as much (and I do understand; we nixed Frances for the same nn reason).

InstantAtom · 29/07/2011 08:15

There's nothing wrong with an Australian accent! It was just another referral to the fact that Adelaide is a place name in Australia. Personally I don't like place names as first names, but it's up to you :)

Astrophe · 29/07/2011 17:13

instantatom - don't worry I'm not offended :) (of course there is loads wrong with Australian accents - broad ones can be just awful!)

Cesca we would pronounce Cheska.

Still haven't decided. Saw my doc today who said there was nothing doing and he'd see me on Tuesday for an induction...but its 2am here and I'm awake because I'm having contractions! Not very regular or close though, so it may fizzle to nothing...

Sorry, this is going off on a tangent, but I see you have named one of your older daughters Clementine, which I really like. Do you pronounce this Clemen-tyne (like the song), or Clemen-teen (like the fruit)? I thought it was usually the -tyne ending, but it seems it can be pronounced either way, and I suppose I wanted to avoid a name that was always being mispronounced... I wondered if you had experienced this?

Good luck with no. 4! I really like Elsie, I think it works nicely as a name for the 'baby' of the family, too. X
