Short list is:

Francesca/Cesca
Elisabeth/Elsie
Charlotte/Lottie

...but each one has its pros and cons (DH likes one more, I like another more, DH doesn't like one of the nicknames, we have a close friend with a child called one of them etc etc).

Siblings are Lucia, Elijah and Clementine.

Comments? Fab new ideas?

All nice names. What is your gut instinct? Or you could wait and see which suits her best.

Ailsa :)

hmmmm, I'm not sure this is helping. So many lovely sugestions, but nothing really jumps out iyswim, and I'm feeling a bit stressy...if this is me now, imagine how I'll be once she's here and we still can't decide!?

Yes, the friends little girl is an Elisabeth/Elsie. Its not so much that I think the child or my child would mind (other child is 4 anyway, so they wont be at school together really), but just that the name is so associated in my mind with the other girl - I can't quite imagine another Elsie, as the name just 'belongs' to the Elsie we know (who is adorable btw...but still).

What about Alice with nn Lissie?

if this is stressing you out just leave it just now Smile there is plenty of time to decide, no hurry at all.

Francesca is a beautiful name.

Astrophe · 18/07/2011 12:54

We have an Alice in the family - I do like it though.

I had sugested Florence to DH, who said no, and now hes reading over my shoulder and saying "Oh, Florence is nice..."

if you like Alica how about

Alissa

or Flora its similar to Florence but not as popular.

aliveandkickingme · 18/07/2011 17:16

I like all of your names :)

Francesca- so pretty and goes the best with your other names. NNs Frankie/ Fran-see/ Franchi/ Cesca
Elizabeth/ Charlotte- nice but a bit classic and unadventurous next to the other names. My preference of the two is Charlotte but Elizabeth has lots of great nns.

Other names that I could see fitting really well:

Cassia
Marot/ Marguerite
Marianna
Paloma
Beatrix
Isadora
Viola
Dahlia
Verity
Penelope
Helena/ Elena
Estelle
Mirabel
Gwendolen
Juliet(te)
Aurelia
Genevieve
Adela
Jasmine
Primrose

Any good?

Love Francesca and Elisabeth, both beautiful names and go well with your other names especially Francesca.

Don't like Charlotte.

Ooh, I like all of them! [no help at all emoticon]

I know someone called Francesca and her name is never shortened to anything, if it makes you feel any better.

Astrophe · 19/07/2011 12:09

Gah, no help at all Wink!

DH and I both leaning towards Francesca I think, but he likes Frankie and I like Cesca. I feel we'd have to be united on the nn front (and introduce her in the first instance as NN) to ensure that nobody calls her Fran. Or do you think Fran is unavoidable?

I love Francesca. Not keen on shortening names but would go with Kessa or Chessy rather than Cesca or Fran/Frankie.

Also love Charlotte but, again, wouldn't shorten it.

Never really liked Elisabeth/Elizabeth for some reason. I think Elsie is very sweet but yes, if you have a close friend who has already used it then I wouldn't go there personally.

Names in a similar vein to your choices perhaps:
Natasha
Rhiannon
Felicity
Giovanna
Isabella
Annabelle
Elisaveta
Genevieve
Xanthe
Madeleine
Ophelia
Rebecca
Samantha
Jemimah
Imogen
Tabitha

Violet
I like Elsie just as a name. My mil's name is Elizabeth.
Beatrice
Allegra
Manon
Cicely
Do you have Italian roots?
I bet your DS is going to have fun with 3 sisters!

Fimbo · 19/07/2011 16:37

Raphaella?

Susannah?

Rosalind?

Jocasta?

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 19/07/2011 18:29

Oooh. Rosalind is lovely.

Astrophe · 20/07/2011 12:34

not so keen on Rosalind (but thanks!).

Elsie is so sweet - if we do choose it, we'd only ever call her Elsie (not Elisabeth) but would put Elisabeth on the birth certificate I think. Ditto Libby.

I have one friend with a Raphael (boy) and another with a Raphaelle (girl), so Raphaella is out for us I think.

I like Harriet but DH not very keen.

Regarding the name being shortened - it definately will be, partly because of the country we live in, but also because DH and I always shorten names within the family - just what we do. Our Clementine is so rarely 'Clementine' (except when naughty :o), even though I think its beautiful and prefer it to Clemmie (which is what we call her). And our Lucis is Luie, and our Elijah is Eli... Silly us!
