Romy- is it too much like a nickname? Plus other names...

I was after a few opinions on some names I am toying with.

I like the name Romy but I'm not sure whether it is a bit unsubstantial as a given name. Does it sound too nick name like to you? (I don't usually like nns as full names eg Milly, Tilly, etc which are quite the thing at present but I do like Romy) and do you like it?

I saw Viola on another thread and liked that a lot also.

What about Romilly an Romy as a nn?

I don't like Romilly much, just Romy.
I wasn't after suggestions for full names to be honest, more whether you think it works well as a given name.

In that case yes I think it does work, and I like it.

I have a Romilly who we always call Romy. I think Romy is a name that works on its own and I love it (but also love Romilly too!)

My sis is called Romany and we call her Romy, not a suggestion lol, fact!

Please steer away from Romy Plum....although it sounds delicious, sounds a bit too edible! Romy Nola is beautiful!

I love Romy, and know one who is 2. I think Romy is lovely as a full name, very acceptable. It's a German/Austrian nn for Rosemary afaik (thinking of Romy Schneider).

Of your other names, I love Hazel, Nola and Plum.

Don't really like your other names though I'm afraid. Nola reminds me of the Nolans! Plum: a bit try-hard, Calla: Calor...gas. Hazel is a bit dated. Prefer Violet to Viola...

Love Romilly and Romy but tbh Plum reminds me of Victoria Plum and boys' dangly bits! Sorry

I used to buy weed off a Romy, I liked the name, think it was actually short for Romeo.

I am biased to Romy but I also like Hazel and Viola.

I like Romy best and think it's fine as a stand alone name. The only other one I like is Viola. I've only heard Plum as a nickname for Victoria. I loathe Hazel and Calla is weird.

Rosemary Hazel (Romy) would be beatiful.

And it's middle-aged chic, to replace old-lady chic. I wouldn't have liked Rosemary five years ago, but I love it now. I have Isabella/sofia/Amelia/Lucia fatigue

ps, Romy on its own is fine too. I just love Rosemary as well. Also, nothing against any of the names I listed there, just feel stronger more middle-aged sounding names are coming around the corner now.

Yes, I think Romy is a nn for Rosemary, like Bandwithering suggests, but I think it can probably stand alone.

We have a Romilly but we don't tend to shorten it to anything. I've never thoughy of shortening it to Romy really - do you pronounce it like Rome with a 'y' on the end?

I know a little girl named Nola and it's lovely. I believe a pet form of Nola is Nolly which is also lovely.

It's a beautiful name, I really like it. Do you say Romily like Rome-ily or Rom-ily?
