this is now officially dd's name. Am having slight regret I didn't choose Isabella (sob), so need a pretty nn I can use to soften the blow of not really liking Elizabeth. Which are feminine and useable in your opinion?

Change it if you want to! They won't even be used to Elizabeth yet. It's only six weeks - that's nothing. Go for it.

manicinsomniac · 13/07/2011 00:11

I'm not a big fan of Elizabeth.

I do like Effie/Effy as a nickname though.

Summerbird73 · 13/07/2011 10:30

change it, i know what you mean about family, mine would make such an issue of it but would get over it. they would have no choice.

if bubs is still only 6 weeks old then you are still feeling post natal and worrying about what other people think (i know - i have been there). you do what you want to do and change it to isabella.

deliakate · 13/07/2011 11:14

I quite like Bee actually. I've only heard it used for Beatrice before, but I've always liked it.

Beth & Libby would be my favourite nns for Elizabeth.
If you don't want to change it I don't see why you can't use the nn Izzy, Isabella would probably be shortened to that anyway...

Aphria · 13/07/2011 11:51

Isa (as in eye-za), is also a nn that can be used for either Elizabeth or Isabella.

jellybeans · 13/07/2011 15:52

I LOVE Imogen. I would change to the name you like. Who cares what others think. if you have doubts now, you probably will always although most people get used to a name eventually. What about change to Isabella Elizabeth and then you are not changing too much just adding another name? I really think you SHOULD change as it is what you want.

MaxineHeadroom · 13/07/2011 16:04

Libby or Bessie :)

asdx2 · 13/07/2011 16:12

Lizzie or Libby would be my choice

JanMorrow · 13/07/2011 17:14

Elizabeth is gorgeous.

I think I like Bess best.. or Eliza.. or Betsy.. or Lilibet as a jokey one (as the queen was known in her youth!). It's such a versatile name.

pranma · 13/07/2011 18:19

I like Betsy and Libby but Eliza is lovely too.The chances are she will be Liz or Lizzie unless you estabish another nn when sh is small.I prefer Elizabeth to Isabella :)

youarekidding · 13/07/2011 18:34

Libby and Beth.

issynoko · 13/07/2011 18:38

I like the name Elizabeth very much. Lots of nicknames and lots of great role models - Elizabeth Bennett, Elizabeth I, Elizabeth Fry. A good strong name with a bit of poety to the sound.

ScatterChasse · 13/07/2011 18:39

Bessie or Bethie

thursday · 13/07/2011 18:41

Bess or Betsy or Eliza are my favourites.

but, if you want to change it i really think you should at 6 weeks. my daughter got the wrong name and it upset me for months and then couldnt bring myself to change it. she did grow into it/i got to like it again eventually but tbh everytime i say her name it feels wrong :(

GibberingGinger · 13/07/2011 21:16

I really like Elizabeth, and would probably use the nn Lizzie.

However if you want to change it, try calling her Lizzie for a while, then change it to Izzy, and then it's only a short step to Isabella Grin. Or is this an insane idea?

But maybe try calling her Isabella around the house for a couple of days and see how it fits and if you are convinced that Isabella is the name you want, then go ahead and change it. She's been Elisabeth for only 6 weeks out of a huge long life of (hopefully) 75 years plus. Less than 0.2% of her life so far.

porcupine11 · 13/07/2011 21:21

My favourite, which is also a nickname for Isabella, is Tibby!

MrsOzz · 13/07/2011 21:51

I work with a French Isabelle and she is known as Isa (being French she says Ee-za but being uncultured I say Izza!) and I would say Isa/Iza is a nice and unusual nn for Elisabeth.

I also think Izzie is very plausible. In fact I think you could get away with Belle too as a version of Beth.

Another could be Lily. I know a 2 year old Eliza who is known as Lily because her big brother used to call her Little Lizzie that came out as Lily Lily and it stuck!

mathanxiety · 13/07/2011 22:03

I know a Bitta who was originally Elizabeth. Also like Elsa, Betty, Liza (as in Minelli) and Eliza.

I also love Liesel, the Irish Eilís, and Czech Eliska.

exoticfruits · 13/07/2011 22:05

Lizzie. She will choose her own later anyway.

ensure · 13/07/2011 22:22

I like Eliza, Elsie, Elise, Bette, Betty, Beth, Isa, Libby...
Not necessarily in that order.

Isabella is very very popular at the moment, around here anyway.

muminthemiddle · 13/07/2011 22:45

I agree with others and would change it to Isabella.

HalfPastSeven · 13/07/2011 23:08

When you changed from Imogen to Elizabeth why did you not go for isabella at that stage? You say that you can't connect with her and blame it on the name. But what if you change the name and the connection still does not happen, will you change again? Sometimes it takes a while to bond (nothing wrong with that, just the way it goes sometimes) and I am a little worried you could be fixating on the name as a "justification". I could be completely off the mark though!

ifancyashandy · 13/07/2011 23:18

Elizabeth IS a fabulous name Wink!

Betsy is cute. Lulabelle is my another nn for it.

Lizzie is reserved for the mad ones in my experience opinion.
