Two kids with names starting with same letter

Is this ok that both my boys would start with an 'E'? Dh and I can only only agree on one name, which is getting frustrating. I like the only one we agree on but I don't passionately love it, and I'm really stuck.

I have a boy and a girl both starting with 'B'. No problems at all.

Kayano · 09/07/2011 19:36

I always say no to names starting with the same letter if they are the same sex due to future post issues.....

Mr. E Xxxxxx

for both of them, if one of them gets very private letter etc, other one may open it

NickNacks · 09/07/2011 19:36

Just think of post when they are a bit older Mr E. Smith.

Less of an issue when its boy/girl.

NickNacks · 09/07/2011 19:37

X posts!

lookout · 09/07/2011 19:41

Oh man. Hadn't though about the post thing. Sad

Go for it. It'll save money on school name-tapes.

E Smith

catinboots · 09/07/2011 19:46

Me and my DSis have the same initial. Post as never been a problem. We have different middle initials and most important/official letters are addressed to Miss X Y Catinboots etc.

PipFEH · 09/07/2011 20:22

Post problem is negliable in my opinion. My hubby has the same name as his dad and there was only one (really quite funny, involving something hubby had bought for a stag do) post opening incident! My eldest son has the same initial as hubby too. I definately wouldn't rule out a name I liked for this reason.

stupefy · 09/07/2011 20:25

Both of mine have the same initial, G. I think it's fine. Post is always addressed to Miss G or Master G or the parent of gardian of (their full name)

When they are adults i expect they will live in their own houses

TubbyDuffs · 09/07/2011 20:28

As long as you don't do a Kardashian type thingy though where you change the spelling of a name to fit the letter.

Gah Khloe and Kourtney!!!

(For the record, I am sure the OP isn't doing that and I agree with the post thingy being negligible.)

MsChanandlerBong · 09/07/2011 20:37

To add an extra consideration, my name begins with L but both my siblings first names begin with R. I think some people thought I might feel left out/they might not feel unique. But it is something that has not bothered any of us at all!

And imo the post thing is only an issue for a small amount of time, so I wouldn't let that stop you either.

create · 09/07/2011 20:52

My sister and I have the same initial.

Most of the time when we were growing up post wasn't an issue - mail was generally expected or you could identify the sender from the envelope. If not it could be sorted once open, although when small it was annoying not to have had the "thrill" of opening your own letter. But the year I was 17 & she 15, a Valentine's card arrived. We still don't know who it was for (or who it was from)

spidgel · 09/07/2011 21:22

I have a boy and girl both with same letter starts. We just really liked both names. No probs at all. My 3rd born we gave him another initial letter as we didn't want two boys with same initial when recieving post.

Greenshadow · 09/07/2011 21:25

This was the one thing we set out to avoid - also avoid mine and DH initial.

So much easier just to be able to write an initial instead of a name when you are writing notes or what ever.

Fifis25StottieCakes · 09/07/2011 21:30

My kids dad and sil have the same initials, i think it was a trend in the 70's

My dad and DB have the same name and are always getting post/phonecalls mixed up.

Youngest dd and her dad have exactlly the same 3 initials.

NonnoMum · 09/07/2011 22:33

You're not Mrs Duggar, are you?

lookout · 10/07/2011 09:27

Well they are both biys so the Miss/Mr thing won't help. It is quite a negligible problem, it's true but now I can't get it out of my head.
NonnoMum, who's Mrs Duggar?
And no, the spelling are quite normal for both Grin

Dd1(19) and dd3(13) have the same initial and probably only once has there been a letter that we were not sure who it was for. The only trouble we have at the moment is two dormant building society books that don't specify other initials so I'm going to have to take them in and ask them to sort out whose is whose. (whose is who's? ) So I'd go for it lookout!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/07/2011 09:41

I wouldn't do it for the post reason. I have the same initial as my DF and he regularly opened my letters.

lookout · 10/07/2011 17:27

Aaaaaaagh. I'm in turmoil. Indecisive as it is but even worse in pregnancy. We've got a couple of months to go so a baby name book is looking to be the only way out of this one!

We really wanted to avoid the same initial thing but also know how hard it is to come up with names you like. Regarding post - it gives you a reason to screan their post as teenagers! Grin

lookout · 10/07/2011 20:38

PrincessScrumpy - Grin

This is seriously the only name in 6 months of talking about it that we can agree on. I mentioned the post thing to dh and he doesn't see it as a big problem.

What does anyone think of having a first and last name that start with the same consonant sound, in this case 'j'?

OP posts:
NickNacks · 10/07/2011 20:49

As in Elijah James?

Bit of a mouthful but not the worst i've heard.

NickNacks · 10/07/2011 20:54

Ignore me i didn't read your post properly.
