which is better out of these two? what do they make you think of aside from disney princess in reference to Tiana, as that doesn't bother me. Thanks

They are ghastly because they aren't to my taste. If you like them, use one.
The disney princess could be Ariel. That's a nice name.

ThatllDoPig · 09/07/2011 14:01

My dd says that Tiana is the best, as it sounds like a pretty barbie doll.

To make it a bit more conventional, what do you think of Tina?

mamaesi · 09/07/2011 14:04

I love arianna!

Tiana sounds a bit made up and therefore a bit ghetto to me. Sorry just being honest.

Londonmumsw · 09/07/2011 14:08

Miss perfect, are we contradicting ourselves now?

couldnt find anything on Boden so I am off to Primark, I guess thats more up your street!

I will leave you a quote from the greatest playwright ever, William Shakespear

What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet

Good luck choosing your baby name!

SloganLogan · 09/07/2011 14:10

Tiana is short for Tatiana and Christiana, which are both pretty. Would you consider using one of those as full name with Tiana as nickname? Tia is another option.

SloganLogan · 09/07/2011 14:12

Arianna is nice but Ariana (with one "n") is even nice IMO.

SloganLogan · 09/07/2011 14:12

nicer

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 09/07/2011 14:21

DS2 is in Year 6 of his admittedly very multicultural London school. There's a Tiana in his class and a Tianna in the other, so not uncommon around here. I like Tiana (pron. Tea-arn-a) but then she's a sweet girl who I've known since Nursery. It sounds pretty normal to me Smile

Arianna sounds fine too (I know a Rhianna and a Rhiannon, so it's not much different from that to my ears!)

Personally I wouldn't come on here and ask about names. I think there's a little subsection of posters on MN atm who just like to be rude. Pick a name that you like and everyone else can just like it or lump it Grin

As you asked though, I'll say I do prefer Tiana.

hulabula · 09/07/2011 14:51

I like both Arianna and Tiana - they sound elegant, feminine and imo are both easy to pronounce and spell in most languages.

And I like that ther're not already used by thousands others.

hulabula · 09/07/2011 14:51

sorry, they're

hulabula · 09/07/2011 14:53

I agree, there seem to be a few mumsnetters on here who will only tolerate very popular top 50 names. How boring....and how confusing if we all choose the same names - kind of defeats the purpose of NAMING or identifying a person.

sparkle12mar08 · 09/07/2011 16:29

Both are awful and would scream 'chav' to most people I imagine. Ariana, one n, if pushed.

firsttimemama · 09/07/2011 16:32

Tiana

Hulabula do you like all names equally?

Eglu · 09/07/2011 16:45

Arianna is lovely. Tiana sounds very (whispers) chav!

Firawla · 09/07/2011 16:46

I like Arianna or Ariana more as I think it is prettier. Tiana is okay but I have known a couple who i didnt like so much, which put me off a bit otherwise would like it more I think

TidyDancer · 09/07/2011 16:53

Ariana is much nicer (yes, with one 'n' only).

Tiana makes me think of a guest on the Jerry Springer show. It's trashy.

birdofthenorth · 09/07/2011 17:28

I prefer Arianna. It's nice. Like Ari as nn.

Tianna does remind me of Jordan's Princess Tiiami or however it's spelt, v sorry! I quite like just Tia though!

Rhubarbgarden · 09/07/2011 19:14

Both a bit bubblegum for me, but Arianna is better.

meditrina · 09/07/2011 19:21

Arianna is a lovely traditional Greek name (I prefer Arianne though, or better still, Ariadne). It means "very holy", and I think is usually Arian in Wales.

I'm not keen on Tiana (sorry).

lateatwork · 09/07/2011 20:09

I know an Ari- his father is Finnish and its a pretty standard name in Finland. He pronounces it 'R E' rather than" 'arry" (Harry without the H...).

hulabula · 09/07/2011 20:15

Slogan, I like some names more than others. I probably like Arianna a little more than Tiana.

BuntyPenfold · 09/07/2011 20:18

I don't like Tiana much tbh.
I know an Arianna, a sweet little girl, who is not called Anna for short. I have heard other children say Arry though.
I think of the space project myself.

freerangeeggs · 09/07/2011 20:22

Arianna is strong and classic. I prefer it to Tiana, which even without the Disney link is princessy and frilly.

Have you considered Ariella, or perhaps Eliora? I'm not trying to sway you from Arianna, which is lovely, just trying to give you even more suggestions THAT SEEM TO FIT YOUR STYLE :)
