really incredible hwo rude people are I practice going

OHH lovely when I have friends due even if I think oh no but they think it is so why not accept it?..................................................................................

Collision - my son is also a Max (a name I loved). No problems with that but people seem to have a problem with his middle name - which is my surname. I get a lot 'Is this 'cos you aren't married' - No! Even if we were married, and I took his name (neither of which will happen with us) I would STILL give him my name as a middle name, it's a lovely name, it's my heritage and it works well. I tell people it's an old Scots custom (which it is) but people look at me like 'Yes dear, you just made that up didn't you'

Wow, that ended up being a bit more ranty than I thought it would!

Debs75 · 26/06/2011 14:54

When I told best friend my dd3 was called Lucy she said 'oh my mum's dog was called Lucy. I hated that dog'

MarioandLuigi · 26/06/2011 14:58

When I told people I was calling DS2 Fraser, about 30 people said 'But thats a scottish name'

I wasnted to call DS1 Jessie (I didnt but went with something similar). MIL told me he would 'Turn out gay with a name like that'.

ByTheBeardOfZeus · 26/06/2011 15:10

MIL on announcing DS1's name would be Lucian - "Oh, I didn't know my grandson was going to be a Bond villian." Hmm

Aaand on hearing DD's MN would be Amaryllis - "Sigh...well, at least I can always claim you were a crack addict."

BulletWithAName · 26/06/2011 15:11

Oh forgot to mention my DC's names

Brandon (the chav) and Scarlett (the stripper).

Cheers MN Grin

meltedchocolate · 26/06/2011 16:11

I shall not say which but some of the names on here are bloomin awful :o Some are lovely indeed though.

Everyone seems to like DS's name but when I told some people of the girl's name I had chosen if he were a girl they said 'Felicity?!?! but that sounds so posh and snobby. You are too common to have a daughter called Felicity.' :o

I am glad you had a son Chocolate

WolfShapedBullet · 26/06/2011 16:45

My Mum literally stopped in her tracks as she moved across my hospital room for the first look at her granddaughter and I revealed dd's name with a "you're joking".

Tumbleweed blew across the room as I answered "no" and tried not to cry in my hormonal and exhausted state. She then pulled a proper judgy catsbum face and "oh" I've never quite forgiven her for bursting my lovely new baby bubble like that.

I wouldn't mind but the name has been mentioned on this thread and I'd consider it fairly normal. She then made a point of referring to dd as 'the baby' for a long time after as she was so loathe to use the name.

It makes me want to name dc2 something really 'out there' just to annoy her. Grin

suzikettles · 26/06/2011 16:55

"That's a dog's name" - my gran when my mum told her my name.

She denies it now, but my mum will never forget it (was very upset at the time apparently).

Will not say what my name it, but it's not particularly doggy I don't think (not Rex or Snuffy for eg)

meltedchocolate · 26/06/2011 16:56

Haha, yes me too. I have scrubbed Felicity off the girl's name list for any future child I have :o but at the time I was crazy it seemed lovely.

:( That is sad Wolf.

I am surprised so many people say rude things to expectant parents but I suppose they think they can get away with it then. To say to someone who already has named the child though Hmm

Tumbleweed seems like a brilliant name for DC2 Wolf??

TyDontWannaMissAthing · 26/06/2011 16:59

My sister said regarding ds' name, in a loud voice, laughing, 'haha he will get called Archibald, oh you are serious'? Ds is Archie Ryan.
FIL and fil's friend about dd's name, 'ooh Sophia Lauren' or whoever she is, it annoyed me that much i got rid of the middle name, the stupid twat doesnt even realise it is his fault Angry DD is now called Sophie Diane, it was going to be Sophie Lauren Diane.

lovinme · 26/06/2011 17:12

DD1 is called Mya my bestfriend said it's a disgusting name but it's much nicer than what she called her DD so I just laughed,it still pissed me off though!

LetThereBeRock · 26/06/2011 17:38

What's wrong with Felicity? It's lovely.

LetThereBeRock · 26/06/2011 17:41

Did we ever find out what a child abusing nun would be called?Grin

Psammead · 26/06/2011 17:55

I like Felicity too.

Everyone like DD's first name, but I tell them her middle name, and I get the blank stare, 'what?' treatment. It's Rowan. Or 'oh, do you like Mr. Bean?'

LittleWhiteWolf · 26/06/2011 17:56

TyDon't..., Sophia Lauren is a pretty famous name combination given the actress Sophia Lauren. It'd be like naming a child Audrey Hepburn Sirname or Marilyn Monroe Sirname in terms of recognisability. Still, he shouldn't have tried to mock your choice.

(hopes hasn't ruined the good intentions of this thread!)

My FIL, on hearing DDs name, said "What, as in Jones?" Her name is Bridget. Not as bad as many on here, but still got on my nerves.

Twit · 26/06/2011 18:04

I have never revealed a name until after the baby has been named, so far we haven't had it too bad except with DD.
DH told MIL's over the phone that she had been born etc etc and that we were calling her Nellie. I could hear them shouting at him down the phone 'you can't call a child that' etc etc until he hung up.
They never call her Nellie and never write it down (on cards etc) and if they introduce her it's always with an eye-roll 'it wasn't our choice' type thing.
Twats.
Am thinking of telling them this LO will be called Jasper and see how they like them apples. (they'll hate it btw)

BalloonSlayer · 26/06/2011 18:07

Um the actress is called Sophia Loren. And Loren is pronounced quite differently to Lauren. It's Lor-REN, while Lauren is LAUR-en.

Sorry Blush

Although, what I should have made clearer was that, as far as anyone was aware at the time, gm had never known any animal who shared my name. I think she just really, really didn't like it.

Clearly lots of children have names that are also sometimes used for pets. Which is absolutely fine. If there's never been a dog called ds's name then I'd be very surprised. It'd make a good name for an Irish Setter, an animal ds shares many characteristics with.

superjobeespecs · 26/06/2011 18:51

my main bug bear is spelling of DDs name or pronouncing it (its a very common, slightly chavvy name which i didnt know was even a name let alone chavvy) and its spelt in the french way its to die for :) DS is still growing but everyone in the family refers to him by his name except MIL who has no problem with his name just seems to call him his middle name by accident a lot.

superjobeespecs · 26/06/2011 18:52

growing in my womd Blush bloody daft brush i am Grin

fairydoll · 26/06/2011 19:25

Of DD1's name Next door neighbour said 'oh well i suppose you can always change it!' Name was catherine which must be one of the most established , least controversial names ever.
