Only Nuala I've ever known was a lovely nun who taught at our school. Think it's really pretty.

muminthecity · 13/06/2011 17:43

I love it, my Aunt is a Nuala and she is by far the kindest, sweetest, funniest person I have ever met Smile

squeak2392 · 14/06/2011 19:53

I really like Fionnuala, but Nuala sounds really silly to me.
I use that spelling for a character called Noo-arl-uh, which I think is very pretty, but I didn't realise it was an actual name pn differently at the time!! Good thing it's a fantasy novel and I can get away with that sort of thing Wink.

mrshotrod · 23/06/2011 01:10

Always liked it. Shame husband doesn't. He crossed it off our, sorry, my shortlist.

Hedwig3 · 23/06/2011 11:14

It is great, I love the sound, like Oona too.

tammytoby · 23/06/2011 13:46

Very pretty. And not overused. Lovely choice!

Bandwitch · 24/06/2011 14:11

Not keen. A nuala would be a right old biddy. Sorry to all the people whose dear mothers are called Nuala. My own mother's name is fairly atrocious and it'd be a cold day in hell before my mother's name is praised on mumsnet.

Bandwitch · 24/06/2011 14:12

Is Oona a possibility? Oona is nicer imo

jellybeans · 25/06/2011 11:26

Is it pronounced Nula? Or Naa-la?

tothemoonandback · 25/06/2011 11:30

Absolutely love it! Beautiful.

rachel234 · 25/06/2011 11:52

Really pretty. And not as overused as so many other names these days. Great choice!

Tuschinski · 25/06/2011 13:26

Don't like. Also live in Ireland and think of it as a aul wans names.

chipmonkey · 25/06/2011 14:47

Sorry, it sounds a bit culchie to me and not in a good way.

Bandwitch · 26/06/2011 10:44

The three nualas are relaunching their career I read in the paper recently! good for them!

Smellslikecatpee · 26/06/2011 12:19

Bandwitch · 26/06/2011 12:23

Nuala?

No. No. No. No.

I'll say it again, in case you missed it, no.

SloganLogan · 26/06/2011 22:31

Not keen, sorry.

candzsmum · 26/06/2011 22:50

I love Fionnuala, with Nuala for short - and if we'd had a girl that would have been her name (however we have 3 boys!). Names are so personal and everyone has their opinions, so best to go with what you like and not worry about anyone else

2kidsintow · 28/06/2011 21:15

One of my midwives was called Nuela (she pronounced it New-la). I liked it.

Broody1976 · 30/06/2011 13:58

I like Nuala, it's def underused. I like Nora too.

My fave at the moment is Aoife - I know it's popular at home (in Ireland) but it's uncommon here in England so I'm really leaning towards it.

MissHonkover · 02/07/2011 15:01

Doesn't do it for me I'm afraid, makes me think of a hefty plain girl in a pinafore. As do Fionnuala, Oonagh, Niamh, Aoife, and particularly Dearbhla and Mairead. Which is odd, given that I know very attractive ladies with three of those names. Grin
