Tell me, would I be crazy?

mumonahotroof, I really do struggle with the issue of 'labelling' names. I'm German but have lived in the UK for 20 years. But I still don't get this concept. I can (somewhat) see how a person can be 'posh' but not how a name can be. I judge a person on their behaviour and appearance but not based on what their parents chose to call them many years ago Hmm.

But interesting to hear that some people find a name like Ludo 'posh' - I would never have considered this Smile.

hellokitty123 · 08/06/2011 22:07

Especially as the Ludo I know (not British) is not exactly 'posh' Grin.

MeantToStopAtTwo · 08/06/2011 23:38

Surely it just means that the name tends to be used mainly by people in a particular social group?

There was one in the times yesterday

mumonahottinroof · 09/06/2011 09:50

Ah, if you're German that explains it Grin

I would say certain names like eg Ludo, Lucinda, Rupert are names normally given by the upper classes _ you may not be posh but with a name like that many people will assume you are. Maybe in other countries these associations are not so strong.

Just as certain other names which I wont go into here for fear of bunfight are considered er, less posh.

I quite like Ludo btw but it does have certain connotations , it is also quite a popular name amongst an uber-Tory crowd I know. OP's choice if that bothers her or not.

Ludo friennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd. Ah, love Labyrinth.

It's ok you know, not mad about it but it's ok.

PatriciatheStripper · 10/06/2011 17:12

Make it Ludovic and then when he's older, if it's too 'out there' for him, he can fall back on Vic. Tis a contraction of 'Victor Ludorum' anyway, winner of the games, so a cool meaning.

nickelbabe · 10/06/2011 17:17

yup, Labyrinth here too.

Ludo was a lovely character, and so cute.

But for a child, I would go for the long name and call Ludo for short.

Toby Young has a son called Ludo. Toby Young is a twat. By this logic you must not also call your son Ludo.

HTH.

And this is why we should have temporary names for our children - so when they are old enough 16? 18? they can choose their own name.
Threads like this prove that parents just are not the right people to choose a name for their child.
Can you imagine going for a job interview or meeting an attractive young lady and having to tell them you are called Ludo.
FFS!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 11/09/2017 20:56

I like it OP.

Montsti · 12/09/2017 14:02

I like Ludovic nn. Ludo!

ibentmywookie · 12/09/2017 14:17

Incredibly posh, but I like it.

Mrsknackered · 12/09/2017 14:46

I know a teen Ludo, it suits him. I wouldn't know if he'd been picked on for it but in London I don't think Ludo even scratches the surface of wacky names

euanthesheepiloveyou · 12/09/2017 14:48

We'll little Ludo will be 6 now so he's probably grown into his name. Zombie thread!!!

euanthesheepiloveyou · 12/09/2017 14:48

*Well

Dustbunny1900 · 12/09/2017 14:51

"SMELL BAAAADD" i love that big furry bugger in the labyrinth

NerdyViking · 12/09/2017 19:10

Yeah, my first thought was the character Ludo Bagman from Harry Potter; wouldn't really want my child to be associated with that lol

But to each their own! 😊
