and the star horse, great book by Mary Stewart

Game / Labyrinth for me.

I think that Ludo on it's own would be a bit cruel TBH, and I think you might need to live in the right area/go to the right school or be European to carry of Ludovic/Ludwig.

tummytickler · 08/06/2011 10:50

I like it, but think immediately of the great big beast in Labyrinth.

Starlingo · 08/06/2011 11:04

Use as a middle name? Have to imagine whether you'd feel OK calling out: 'Ludo, supper's ready' or 'Ludo, come here' in the shops. I heard a mother whine 'Ophelia, get away from the cabbages' in Tesco yesterday and it was terrible. Mind you, I have a problem with Ophelia because of mad-dead-girl-Hamlet.
Sorry off topic. Must admit Ludo's cute tho. And fun. Middle name it.

As in the game? No, no, and no! x

mumoftoomany · 08/06/2011 11:35

I know a little Ludovic, sometimes called Luco. I like it very much.

Starlingo · 08/06/2011 11:40

Luco is fab. That is a great idea.

notso · 08/06/2011 11:45

It would be okay if the game Ludo was not the single most boring game in the world.

mumoftoomany · 08/06/2011 11:52

Ludo is only called Ludo in English. In German Ludo is a boys name and the game is called 'Mensch ärger dich nicht' Smile. Not sure about other countries.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 08/06/2011 11:56

I also thought of the Labyrinth beastie.

notso · 08/06/2011 11:59

I bet it's still as boring though motm Smile

mumoftoomany · 08/06/2011 12:10

Yeah, the game is very boring Smile.

chinateacup · 08/06/2011 13:38

Wow I like it - but not keen on full form Ludovic unless you are Germanic?

valiumbandwitch · 08/06/2011 13:44

What about Louis Donald with a nick name of Ludo.

Or Lucian Donald.

hellokitty123 · 08/06/2011 13:45

Love Ludovic and Lucian. Ludo is a nice nickname imo. I think people will loose the game association once they meet a real life Ludo. And who still plays Ludo these days anyway (with all the computer games etc.).

mumonahottinroof · 08/06/2011 13:51

Extraordinarily posh - if you're happy with that then go ahead.

bigbutton · 08/06/2011 13:52

Ludo is a lovely name, and not weird-unusual. I know 2 Ludos (both nn for Ludovic). One is a friend of my dad, and the other is the son of a friend. They are both of general british extraction, so it's not that they've been named by a foreign parent iyswim.

The friend of my dad has his own business and says his name has done him good because no-one forgets it.

I also came across a lot of Ludovics in Paris, so I get the impression it's more commonly used in France than here.

hellokitty123 · 08/06/2011 13:56

"Extraordinarily posh"

Posh? I really struggle what criteria people use to define 'poshness'... How can a name be posh anyway - a person maybe but a name?

mopsyflopsy · 08/06/2011 14:01

I really like Ludo, esp short for Ludovic.

PaisleyLeaf · 08/06/2011 14:11

hellokitty, could getting about by helicopter be considered posh?
I know a Ludo who has occasionally got around by helicopter.

AlmaMartyr · 08/06/2011 14:14

I thought of the big beast from Labyrinth as well. Nice enough name although I think there are a lot of similar names around atm.

mumonahottinroof · 08/06/2011 20:56

Really hellokitty? So do you think names never have any class connotations?

mathanxiety · 08/06/2011 21:21

I love it but as a nn for Ludovic, which I also love.

cleanandclothed · 08/06/2011 21:25

No. Ludo Bagman is in Harry Potter, so will be nicknamed Bagman
