I really love this name but I haven't had a good reaction when I said it to my cousin (but then she can be very butchy about names) then I had a very positive reaction when I mentioned it to a friend (but she likes 'weird' names, the stranger the better she told me Hmm )

Thought I'd test reactions on here instead

Um...no. Sorry! Sounds a bit chavtastic to me.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 05/06/2011 15:01

Isn't it a type of potato?

lurkerspeaks · 05/06/2011 15:03

Don't like it.

Googled it to check your spelling - I would have initially though Desiree with an accent. The top two links I got (for desirae) on google were porn sites......

pooka · 05/06/2011 15:03

Is it pronounced like the potato? If it is, then would be better spelt that way i.e. desiree. The -rae looks wrong.

Anyway... I don't like it at all I'm afraid.

MrsRhettButler · 05/06/2011 15:05

There's a potato? ok I'm guessing it's a no then

Shock porn sites?! Oh dear

The spelling came from a French baby name site btw

Yeah I thought potato when I saw this, sorry

RhinestoneCowgirl · 05/06/2011 15:07

Just by chance, my DD's name is also a type of potato, my dad planted some and they were v tasty - true story Grin

MrsRhettButler · 05/06/2011 15:12

But do people think potato when they hear her name rhinestone?

Good to hear they were tasty though Grin

So do we really think I can't use it? I mean potatos won't be around forever...... And I could spell it proper like Wink

I'm sad because I still like it but I don't want people to think chav either :(

What about Deirdre? Esme?

hulabula · 05/06/2011 15:20

Desiree is lovely. But not spelt Desirae.

Lots of potato varieties out there including Charlotte, Anja, Edward, Desiree - still nice names.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 05/06/2011 15:24

MrsRB - don't think so, it is a word as well.

MrsRhettButler · 05/06/2011 15:49

I'm split now, totally split :(

EricNorthmansMistress · 05/06/2011 16:26

It means 'desired' so it's Desiree, at least spell it right!

pilates · 05/06/2011 16:46

No its awful

chipmonkey · 05/06/2011 17:36

Not mad about it however it's spelt but do think Desiree would be better.

urbanewarrior · 05/06/2011 17:38

potatoes won't be around forever?

ZZZenAgain · 05/06/2011 17:39

not good
I don't think potato but really not good IMO

hulabula · 05/06/2011 17:55

Do people think potatoes when they meet a Charlotte or an Edward? Probably not imo.

freerangeeggs · 05/06/2011 18:13

Desiree is better than Desirae which looks illiterate (sorry). I understand the appeal but it's a bit American/90s for me.

freerangeeggs · 05/06/2011 18:15

And also I did instantly think potatoes. I don't know what you mean by 'potatoes won't be around forever' - that's probably true but I'm not sure they'll be going anywhere during your daughter's lifetime.

meditrina · 05/06/2011 18:17

It's not a name I'd go for, but Desirée is OK. I don't like other spellings for it, though.

catinthehat2 · 05/06/2011 18:26

Maris is good if you like spud names apart from the usual Charlotte & Edward

Nicola or Cara work as well

Or you could go the whole hog and have Pentland Javelin, Homeguard or International Kidney

wineandcheese · 05/06/2011 19:11

Not keen.
Makes me think of Des'Ree ("I'm afraid of the dark, specially when I'm in a park"...).

ajandjjmum · 05/06/2011 19:16

DD has a German friend call Desiree - I always thinki how pretty it is.
