I really love this name but I haven't had a good reaction when I said it to my cousin (but then she can be very butchy about names) then I had a very positive reaction when I mentioned it to a friend (but she likes 'weird' names, the stranger the better she told me Hmm )

Thought I'd test reactions on here instead

Ok, potatoes not being around forever was a joke, a poor one I know Blush but I did put a wink after the sentence.

Obviously I would spell it the right way, the spelling isn't the issue, I did mention that it was from a French names website, I'm really not trying to be 'different' Grin

Anyway, judging by the response I'm going to get more negative thoughts than positive ones

But if you really love it, use it. Don't let friends or potatoes put you off! But spell it Desiree. We never told anyone what I was going to call the baby until I announced his birth. Told parents when we had definitely decided just before the birth. Easier that way!

"Don't let friends or potatoes put you off! But spell it Desiree. We never told anyone what I was going to call the baby until I announced his birth."

and when she arrives she will be a PERSON not a potato, and that will proably never occur to you or anyone else again, she will just be Des.

Don't be put off if you really love it - could be very pretty and everyone who knows her will know her rather than think about potatoes as catinthehat says.

Phew on potatoes Grin

Yes, choose Desiree if you love it. Don't let a random group of internet users put you off a lovely underused name. I'd much rather meet a little Desiree than anothe Evie or Ava, tbh. And I don't think of potatoes when I meet a Charlotte for example, or an Anya (and I know a lovely one).

I think of it as being a bit white trash in America but not so much in the UK.

Ooooh just looked it up on the name rankings and it was 2148 in 2009 with only 11 girls called Desiree, is it wrong that this makes me like it more?!

I've totally got that song in my head now about ghosts and toast etc!

MrsRhettButler · 06/06/2011 22:29

I absolutely love it more for that reason Popsicle.

I must say the thing I've noticed as I've mentioned it to a few friends now is that no one particularly likes it when I first mention it (or could just be surprise as they don't hear the name much at all) but after they say it a few times they seem to decide it's quite pretty.

Even dp who turned his nose up to begin with has decided that he quite likes it
