Oh heck. Help appreciated please with traditional boy's names.

Surname is a 3-syllable Mac name.

I don't want to influence suggestions but current likes include Douglas and Aidan (Aiden? - what's the standard spelling?)

thanks

I like the idea of Scottish names but from the lists I've seen none stand out as "that's the one".

By traditional I mean familiar names with standard spellings, nothing that's particularly linked with popular culture (e.g. Jayden).

Think Aidan is the tradition way of spelling it, flame me now if I'm wrong. Love the name too.

Magnus and Angus are both lovely.

EightiesChick · 20/05/2011 11:39

A friend has just called her baby Douglas. May be an up-and-coming name. Aiden can be spelled either way I think. It might be that one spelling is more Scottish than the other though.

Have you tried just picking randomly (eg from a hat) between Douglas and Aiden? (idea being that if you feel pleased/ a bit disappointed at what comes out you know your true choice). What are your other contenders?

Trad names:
William
Edward
Robert (Scottish connection)

Oh and James.

I've maybe given the impression that the choice is between Douglas and Aidan - not the case. I kind of like all of these but none are "the one", so I'd like some inspiration please:

Alex
Paul
Neil
Mark
Alan
Lachlan
Aidan
Damon
Jason
Greig
Glen
Gordon
Graham
Douglas
Matthew

PrinceHumperdink I'd no idea that Jayden was a traditional name. I'd like to avoid any names that remind me of Britney / Kerry / Jordan / The Rooneys etc, that's what I meant by avoiding popular culture Smile

Jayden meaning and name origin:
ja(y)-den\ as a boy's name (also used as girl's name Jayden), is a variant of Jaden (American) and Jadon (Hebrew), and the meaning of Jayden is "thankful; God will judge".

Personally I thinks its about as Chav as it gets! Don't care how biblical it is!

The spelling is AidEn, which is a lovely name.

You clearly have an affiniity with names with -en/-on/an endings - there are quite a few on your list. Two in a row sound a bit odd though so I would go for a name without that ending as the middle name.
As well as Aiden and Douglas, I'd go for, from your list:

Alex (an excellent all-round, boundary-crossing name )
Gordon
Matthew
