Florencia - Is it too fussy?

Sorry me again. Me and Dh been discussing baby names again and come across the name Florencia. We both like the name Florence but there is something about this name that I like. To me it has got the same feel to it, as the name Alicia. Traditional but a little different. What do you think? We have got a 1 syllable 5 letter surname. Considering the middle names Pearl or Grace at moment. I am also considering potential NN. Flo being the obvios one but may be this name could lend itself to the nn Cici. Am I overthinking things.

Thanks for your help.

I don't like it personally.

DelGirl · 14/05/2011 13:13

is it a name? I think it would be ok if it's pronounced Floren seeah rather than Flor en cia if that make sense. Only my opinion though!

sunshinescarlett · 14/05/2011 13:13

Sorry bad spelling. that should read 'Flo being the obvious one....' Blush

Thanks for your feedback Visitor Smile

Del - Yes, it is in my two of my baby books as a variation of Florence. I never really noticed it before, up until reading about the meaning of the name and it's variations.

Yes, too fussy IMO. What about Emilia?

Pancakeflipper · 14/05/2011 13:21

Nah - very flouncey frilly and very girly girly.

MirandaGoshawk · 14/05/2011 13:23

Yes, it's fussy. Prefer MrsvWoolf's alternatives.

sunshinescarlett · 14/05/2011 13:24

Bumper - yes, I really like Emilia too. DH, slightly not sure about it though but I really like it.

I prefer just Florence.

DH loves Florence, and we had always thought of Emilia too! But think it will be constantly corrected to Amelia.

Am finding girls names much harder than i thought i would after three boys.

MercurySoccer · 14/05/2011 17:02

I prefer Florence. Pearl and Grace are both lovely too.

sunshinescarlett · 14/05/2011 17:09

Thanks everyone. We still really like Florence but just wanted to test the water with this one. Deep down , I too think it is probably a little too fussy but do wonder why it seems more fussier than names such as: Alicia, Emilia, Isabella, Sophia etc Hmm

You might get away with it for a middle name. Pearl Florencia?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 14/05/2011 17:24

It's definitely a name! My friend is named that, she is from Uruguay. I presumed it was their version of Florence, Ive never asked her.
As for nicknames I either call her Flo or Goaty. Grin

MelinaM · 14/05/2011 18:30

Too frilly, and does sounds and look 'made up', how about Florentine instead?

Folicacid · 14/05/2011 19:09

It is a wee bit fussy IMHO...

Firawla · 14/05/2011 22:10

It sounds to me like it would be a type of pizza?!
too fussy i think, probably because it is quite a bit longer than the others you mentioned is why it looks fussier..
I would prefer Florence Pearl, or if you prefer the frillier ones Alicia Pearl etc are nice

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 14/05/2011 22:23

It isn't made up, it's the Spanish version of Florence.

CointreauVersial · 14/05/2011 22:25

Florenciania?

Florentiolia?

Florentianetia?

wtf - just Florence. Lovely name, doesn't need embellishment.

exoticfruits · 14/05/2011 22:28

Florence s lovely-why mess with it?

BatFlattery · 14/05/2011 22:30

I'm sorry, I don't like it, or Florence. Love love love Pearl though Smile

Boogiemumma · 15/05/2011 20:39

love Florence, Florencia or any other differentiation sounds fussy or like a piza / biscuit :)

sunshinescarlett · 15/05/2011 22:59

Thanks for all your feedback and suggestions. I think we will just stick with Florence as a potential name and forget about Florencia. Thanks Smile

Florence is lovely. It was my grandmother's name, and as a child her family called her Florrie :)

MackerelOfFact · 16/05/2011 11:44

It sounds a bit made up, even if it isn't. Like a combination of Florence and Valencia. Go for Florence if you like it.
