Just now its my favourite girls name but concerned because i dislike Ashley Cole!

Would your first reaction on hearing the name be girl or boy?

Either. Gender neutral for me. Like it for a girl, but dont so much for a boy Grin

DottyDot · 11/05/2011 19:38

Boy

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 11/05/2011 19:44

I like it for a boy and don't like it for a girl. Prefer Asher though.

sharbie · 11/05/2011 19:46

2 dds pals are female ashleys

daisybear · 11/05/2011 19:52

for me its a boy....probably because i know 2 males with this name

lilbitneurotic · 11/05/2011 19:54

I know - it does probably depend who you know already. Still think I really like it for a girl tho - its top of my list.

Boy for me - as I have a friend with the name and think its lovely (for either!)
Could you maybe use Ashleigh for a girl to get away from the Mr Cole connection?

FattyAcid · 11/05/2011 20:02

Boy

meditrina · 11/05/2011 20:03

Boy (Corrie's Ashley Peacock).

Aisling for a girl?

Boy's name imo, but I know several teenage girls with this name, as well other made-up variations (Ashleigh, Ashton, Ashtynne etc).

Horrible name, and the variations are even worse, sorry.

squeak2392 · 11/05/2011 21:44

I prefer it on a boy, but I wouldn't have an expectation either way.

rachel234 · 11/05/2011 21:50

Girl - I have a lovely friend in her 30s called Ashley. I find it very feminine sounding.

brightcopperkettles · 11/05/2011 22:44

I know both male and female with this name but to me it still sounds more feminine.

MelinaM · 11/05/2011 22:54

Boy, and an effeminate one at thatGrin

MercurySoccer · 11/05/2011 23:11

Unisex

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 12/05/2011 00:26

As I was growing up, it was a boys' name - I find it strange becasue of that to hear of girls named Ashley. I like Aisling though. A lot.

BuntyPenfold · 12/05/2011 09:13

I know 2, both male, in their teens now.
I know a little girl called Ashlyn, which I suppose sounds more feminine, as in Caitlin, Madeleine sound.

bronze · 12/05/2011 09:15

Boy and I agree with the Colonel about Asher being better.

Emelene · 12/05/2011 10:57

I think unisex, but I personally don't like it on boys. The only Ashley I know is male and shortens it to Ash. Aisling (pronounce Ash-ling) is prettier imo.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 12/05/2011 15:54

Boy. Aisling for a girl.

speakercorner · 12/05/2011 16:00

boy

SandStorm · 12/05/2011 16:04

Ashley for a boy
Ashleigh for a girl

Idreamofsunshine · 13/05/2011 21:01

One of the only names that I wouldnt have a clue whether it was a boy or girl. I much prefer it for a boy though

MercurySoccer · 13/05/2011 21:38

A famous female Ashley is Ashley Olsen.
