What do *you* consider to be "horrible" names?

I was reading another thread here, where many people referred to a particular name as being "horrible". So it got me to thinking... What constitutes a "horrible" name, and how does that perception change from region to region?

Please... This is NOT to offend ANYONE... I just truly want to get a feel for what you think are truly awful names. Opinions vary greatly across the globe, and I would love to be able to compare them.

Here's the deal... I would be very grateful if each poster would post (as nicely as possible) the names they dislike the very most, and why, without taking merciless jabs. Also, if you are comfortable with it, would you please list the continent or country you are from as well. I am hoping this will be fun and informative!

Here goes... My uncontested, most disliked name of all time is "Nevaeh". Why? Because I think it is beyond senseless to reverse the spelling of a common word and call it a name. (North America)

Names that should be nicknames given as full names. Like Jamie, Charlie, Alfie, Harry. I don't have a problem with children being called them, but the pendant in me wants to insist they're called James and Charles and Alfred and Henry/Harold for 'official' purposes...

OMG I can't believe I typed that...

I throw Chardonnay into the mix. It is just wrong.

The ones that have stood out over recent years that made my teeth itch are

Also don't like Madison, Macy, Jayden etc.

Equally don't like the middle class muesli belt names.

Other than that, I'm not really bothered.

Not a fan of the sleb bandwagoning. Prefer that nicknames are nicknames, not 'proper' names.

Saying that, I'm sure most people on here would not approve of my kids names as one is a myth and the other is a traditional spelling, as long as you're not living in this part of Europe

Hate Tarquin and Xavier.

Dislike people who say i should have called my daughter Constance and not Connie.

Don't like Simon or Nicola. Stems from some deep-rooted bullying at primary school, I think. Hate Kicky/Nikki as well.

Surname names like Peyton, Mitchell, Taylor, Mackinley etc., or, heaven forbid, place names like Madison.

And of course your Kayleighs, Shaynes et al.

Agree with the Jayden/Brayden/made-up name-en fiasco.

Also hate Freya, is soooo 'blah'.

Middle aged builder names on children, i.e Kenith.

Old lady names; Rudy, Diane, Esme.

Boring names; James, Tim, Mark, Emma, etc. Just sounds like the parents couldn't think of anything.

Cats names for children; Kitty, Rosie, Lola. Like the name? Get a cat!!

Posh names; Victoria, Henry, Elizabeth, George. The chance of your child growing up to marry a Royal is slim, don't bother.

Boys names ending with 'i'; Levi, Kai. Looks like there's letters missing.

Michael. (shhh, DP's middle name is Michael...). To me, it just sounds like the baby appeared, time was running out to get him registered and, out of frustration, someone said 'why not call him Michael? That name doesn't seem to be going anywhere...'

Kai, Jayden, Tyler, Brian, Rodney, Isabella, Matilda, Maisie (unless for a pet), Geraint, Leanne, Leslet, Annabel, Mason oh there are so many!

The Margo/Margott controversy earlier on this thread reminds me of the alleged exchange between Margot Asquith, wife of PM Herbert, and 'Blonde bombshell' actress Jean Harlow - when Jean pronounced her name as Margott she replied "No dear, the t is silent - as in Harlow"

The only names I really dislike are Regan and Logan for girls.

I always associate names with the people I meet with them - they will take on that persons personality IYSWIM. So someone can have what I'd previously thought of as an ugly name but because they are lovely I find myself liking the name.

I'm thrilled that all four of my DCs names are on this hate list! Emily, Jessica, James and Isabella.

What I'd like to know, particularly from those who have seemingly violent aversions to the names I've used, is what they called their children

However, I am totally in agreement with the Jaydon/Caydon/Chardonnay/Kayleigh etc etc. And double-barrelled names. And stupid spellings of names (I have seen at least TEN different spellings of mine alone - including idiots double-barrelling it - but I HATE my name with a passion).

Living where I do, it is often hard to keep a straight face on hearing some of the names given to the English kids here. I could probably write a book on what NOT to call your child on these alone

I have read this thread and seem some names that I've thought 'oh no I dont like that' and others where I thought 'Oh actually I like that name'

If I had to write a list without reading others first I couldn't have done it. TBH theres no name I think is horrible but some people who are horrible and saying their name is painful

Sidney or Sydney. Horrible sour sounding slithery name.

I dislike nicknames or shortened names being given names, eg Alex rather than Alexander/Alexandra. I feel that the full name should be given and then the child can be called by the shortened version if they want to.

Names I dislike (not exactly hate), are Kelly, Ethan, Maxine, Lisa, Joanne. Probably others.
