On my shortlist for DD3, DH loves it and thinks the discussion's over. I love it too... I think.

Do your worst, ladies Smile.

I love it, but can't say it (have a bit of a lisp!)

MayBankHoliday · 26/04/2011 20:41

Gorgeous name :)

Patron saint of music is a nice connection too.

FollowMe · 26/04/2011 20:47

Very nice!
What are your other DDs names?

chirpchirp · 26/04/2011 20:54

It's a lovely name, I can't say it without breaking into song though...

WearegoingonaKwazihunt · 26/04/2011 20:56

love it. I wish I had called my DD it.

Jacksterbear · 26/04/2011 20:57

Love it. And love CiCi (or however spelled) as a nickname.

speculationisrife · 26/04/2011 21:04

'I'm down on my knees'...? Sorry, I just can't help it. It's pretty, though. And I love it pronounced the Italian way with a 'ch' sound. If you both love it, then you should definitely use it. And if she gets sung at it'll be character-building!

randomimposter · 26/04/2011 21:11

you're breaking my heart, you're shaking my confidence daily....
My sister chose this as her confirmation name.
We sing the song regularly.
She's 53.
We still think it's funny.

It's nice - I also like Cecily.

eurycantha · 26/04/2011 21:49

I love it but am with Beamur wouldn`t be able to say it without soaking you

mopsyflopsy · 26/04/2011 22:04

I love it but I'm afraid the meaning would put me off:

Latinate feminine form of the Roman family name Caecilius, which was derived from Latin caecus meaning "blind". Saint Cecilia was a semi-legendary 2nd- or 3rd-century martyr who was sentenced to die because she refused to worship the Roman gods. After attempts to suffocate her failed, she was beheaded. She was later regarded as the patron saint of music and musicians.

BibiBelle · 26/04/2011 22:07

I love it. It's DD2's middle name and had I known DD3 would come I'd have kept it with nn Cece Smile

petitdonkey · 26/04/2011 22:08

Love it and love Cece as a nn. (You will sing the song but I think that's okay Smile)!

Maud2011 · 26/04/2011 22:28

Lovely name!

Prinpo · 26/04/2011 22:31

Thanks all Smile.

The meaning does put me off a little, mopsy, but not enough to stop me choosing the name. I think that the meaning of names is something we look up when choosing but, personally, I don't give it a lot of thought after that. Can't even remember what DD2's name means.

Other DDs are Rhea and Marianne, FollowMe. There, just outed myself to anyone who knows me Grin. Cecilia fits my obsessive list of requirements in that no-one else in our family (ie in our house) has that initial, abbreviations will start with C and so on. Really don't mind about the song - we've been singing it ever since the name came up. Figure she'll quite like having a song with her name in it, although not sure how I'll handle explaining the line "when I come back to bed someone's taken my place" Wink.

Just tell her it's the dog (or cat).

Prinpo · 26/04/2011 22:43

Sorted Grin. I think you've just clinched it for me.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 26/04/2011 22:59

Good - it's DD1's middle name, named after a beloved great-aunt (and I love the musical connection,too)

2to3 · 27/04/2011 22:42

I have a Cecilia and absolutely love it still. It's international, which was essential in our case as we are from different countries. We have Italian friends who pronounce it 'Chechilia' or 'Chechi' and it is sticking. It's quite an unusual and old fashioned name but seems to be slowly creeping back into vogue as I've heard of a few Cecilias or Celias recently (can't stand Celia though). Have had lots of compliments, particularly from ladies of a certain age. Marianne is very pretty - it was one of our contenders.

Prinpo · 28/04/2011 09:48

Thanks, 2to3, it's good to hear from someone who's used the name for a while. What abbreviations have you been using, apart from Chechi? I'm struggling to come up with any that feel natural. I'm reluctant to use Celia as it's a name in its own right.

valiumbandwitch · 28/04/2011 10:01

I like it. prefer just Celia though.

sykes · 28/04/2011 10:14

It's my name and I have endless nicknames. At school these included Cesspit, Cecil, Cec, Ceewee, CC. I'm now more of a C. I don't refer to myself as Cecilia (teachers did at school) but Celia.

sophiesmummie · 28/04/2011 10:48

Nice sounding name but, having studied Latin, I can't dis-associate the meaning from the name, which would put me off.
