common

CharlieBoo · 22/04/2011 20:03

The new Tracey... There's just so many now..

CornishTwinMoominMamma · 22/04/2011 21:06

I love it. I decided years before having children that I wanted to use the name. At that stage I knew of no Lilys. It took years for me to get pg and there were suddenly loads of them. I still used it cos I was in love with the name despite its huge popularity/commonality. I wish it wasn't a common name though.

pickler · 22/04/2011 21:09

All the Lily-Maes have well and truely put me off this name. It's the most popular name if you add all the spellings together.

Lilyloo · 22/04/2011 21:11

Lovely i have a 6 year old one (all the too popular comments mean very little if you really like it imo)

BuntyPenfold · 22/04/2011 21:19

I love it, it is popular for a reason.

sum04 · 22/04/2011 21:29

Thanks, i didn't realise that it was such a popular name... I have only known of one Lily, so very surprised that it is apparently sooo common.x

It is common as in commonly occurring, but I would refute that it is common as in trailer trash

hmc · 22/04/2011 21:34

and it is declinining in popularity compared to some. I think it is a classless, classic, timeless name and like it

hmc · 22/04/2011 21:36

however number 8 currently

stressheaderic · 22/04/2011 21:37

Every other baby girl I know is called Lily. I've rather gone off it.

poppydaisy · 22/04/2011 22:10

It is rather overused and I think it will feel dated soon.

mayanna123 · 22/04/2011 22:17

Very overused round here - any name that becomes so 'fashionable' quickly will date as people tire of it. I especially dislike the Lily-Mae type combinations, I'm afraid.

usualsuspect · 22/04/2011 22:19

I like it

Who cares if its common

tigercametotea · 22/04/2011 22:21

Its a lovely name. Common or not.

BlessedAssurance · 22/04/2011 22:23

just use it, i didn't know my DD's name was common until i came on MN, even now i don't care, if you like it go for it,

mayanna123 · 22/04/2011 22:26

"Who cares if its common?"

Some people do. They'd rather not have to share a name with several others in a class.

Beamur · 22/04/2011 22:28

Hardly any Lilys where I live. I don't actually know any.
I think its rather sweet and lovely.

usualsuspect · 22/04/2011 22:30

'Some people do. They'd rather not have to share a name with several others in a class.'

Really? they need to get a grip then

I know one Lily and another Lily-Mae, but no others at dd's school.

squeak2392 · 26/04/2011 21:38

6 months ago I thought it felt really stupid on the tongue, but I could actually see myself using it on my own daughter now.

I wouldn't though.
You know, because every little girl these days seems to be Lily, Poppy, Isla, Lila, Lola, Sophia or Olivia. There's probably been at least one of each of those in every Reception class for the past 5 years.

I'm not a teacher, or even around children very much, but I know I would get annoyed if I were with those names. It would all be a bit too 'sweet' for me. I know there are a million Emmas, Rebeccas, etc, but at least they're not going to give you a cavity.

In conclusion, although I think it's a really pretty name, I would be extremely hesitant to use it. Do it only if you love it.

squeak2392 · 26/04/2011 21:39

I mean 'if I were a teacher'.

MayBankHoliday · 26/04/2011 23:42

It's a lovely name, very pretty.

doublemuvver · 30/04/2011 23:08

We chose Lillia for our little girl, Arabic form of Lily, pleasantly different from Lily. And there are not many Lillias knocking about.
