Here's the latest list of DD girls names. Not really attached to any of them (more DH and I kinda agree on these) so feel free to do your worst Smile

Juliet
Aurelia
Marianna
Jasmin
Sylvie
Helena
Maria

Need to get Dh to make a decision so opinions welcome!

Juliet...not that keen
Aurelia...dislike
Marianna...dislike
Jasmin....prefer e on end..ok
Sylvie...ok
Helena....ok
Maria....ok

Jasmine is my favourite followed by Sylvie.

MuffinMouse · 16/04/2011 20:59

Thank you everyone. Really useful comments - I hadn't thought of the Christian/Maria connection (can you believe it!!!) or the potential of nn.

Any other suggestions welcome -

Juliet - ok, slightly boring
Aurelia - no
Marianna - no
Jasmin - pretty
Sylvie - yes, love!
Helena - no
Maria - no

Rhubarbgarden · 16/04/2011 22:38

Helena is my favourite. I second the Marisol suggestion though - it means sea and sun; how glorious!

LoopyLoopsNincompoop · 16/04/2011 22:41

Juliet - like
Aurelia - don't like
Marianna - like
Jasmin - needs an 'e', but love if it has it
Sylvie - makes me think of brown leather sandals and tie-die skirts
Helena - don't like
Maria - like

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 16/04/2011 22:44

Jasmine is the only one of those I would consider (if it was me).

ellesabe · 17/04/2011 20:22

Juliet - Quite nice. I also like the spelling Juliette.
Aurelia - Love
Marianna - Not keen
Jasmin - Quite popular but nice. Should have an 'e' on the end?
Sylvie - Love
Helena - Would be mistaken for Eleanor
Maria - Good for someone who has Spanish/Italian roots

gorionine · 17/04/2011 20:26

Juliet: not a favourit of mine, no particular reason though
Aurelia: I really like it, it has some sort or "presence"
Marianna: I prefer Marianne to Marianna
Jasmin: very elegant
Sylvie: nope
Helena:lovely
Maria: Probably my favourite but stille prefer Marie

cece · 17/04/2011 20:31

Juliet [ like but don't like the nn Jules
Aurelia - not keen
Marianna - not sure, could grow on me
Jasmin - prefer it with an e on the end of it
Sylvie - lovely
Helena - lovely
Maria - OK

Out of your list I would use Helena

MuffinMouse · 17/04/2011 21:22

Baby is coming on Tuesday (cs) So, we've refined our list, after your helpful comments. Please can you comment on the following:

Aurelia (worried about some daft nickname we haven't thought of 'areola'? - and will the name work at all ages/stages?)

Juliette - (DH prefers this spelling too, I shortened it after the Alfa Romeo commercial, but happy either way) It seems to be building popularity on MN. Would quite like to avoid top 100 (like Christian has managed to)...

Marianna - can't have Marianne, due to other family member. Does the a make it too much of a mouthful?

Marietta???
Marina???

We've decided to take the following off our list:

Jasmine (I agree about the e) is off the list now
Maria - agree with the overly religious connotations with DS Christian
Helena (we can't agree on a pronunciation, so it's off the list)

Can't believe how tough I am finding this!!!

Love Juliet and Sylvie. As a teacher, have not taught any of these, and they are very pretty without being too unusual. Personally, I love Sylvia too, but alas we have called our cat this and two would be a little confusing!!

yama · 17/04/2011 21:32

Juliet and Marianne (rather than Marianna) for me.

Not keen on Jasmin, Aurelia or Helena.

Sylvie and Maria seem old fashioned to me (associations though so personal).

yama · 17/04/2011 21:33

Sorry, didn't see your last post.

I like Marianna.

Not my ususal type of name, but there is a Marianna in DSs class, and I always think it's really pretty.

I like Juliet, but spelled Juliet. Classic.

Aurelia is the kind of name I usually like, but it's not grabbing me tonight. Confused

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 17/04/2011 21:40

I would choose Marina from there. A classic name - there's a Marina in Shakespeare but less well known than Juliet!

Marianna is nice, the variation Mariana flows better I think, but as I said there is the marijuana suggestion ... wouldn't bother me, though

Aurelia is quite grand, but a bit of a mouthful and people may be unsure of the pronunciation. (I am, tbh. Or-ree-lee-a? Or-ray-lee-a? Ow-ree-lee-a? etc)

All of them are fine for any age methinks.

MuffinMouse · 17/04/2011 21:45

Aurelia - don't mind any of those pronunciations tbh (strange, i know).

OP posts:
chalat · 17/04/2011 21:48

Mariesa? I know of only one, so rather unusual - and the emphasis on pronounciation may vary according to location/preference. I think she says it Mar-eess-ah.

SolarPanel · 17/04/2011 21:56

Aurelia - lovely
Juliette - lovely (personally prefer Juliet spelling, can't see the point of the extra letters)
Marianna - nice
Marietta - like
Marina - like
Sylvie as middle name - OK but I find it a bit "faddy" ATM, prefer Sylvia

If you like names starting with Mari (or similar), how about Miriam, Maribel, Marisa, Mirabelle, Miranda, Maricella?

MuffinMouse · 17/04/2011 22:08

Thank you.

Can't have a name ending in la...unfortunately. Dh has said no to the others...

MerryMarigold · 17/04/2011 22:12

Juliet - Like it - a lot
Aurelia - Naaah, bit poncey
Marianna - Bit of a mouthful, don't really like it, but it's ok
Jasmin - weird without the 'e'. Ds1 has 2 in his class, and a Yasmin!
Sylvie - Like it
Helena - Really like it - MY FAV
Maria - Nice too
