The papa is Indian and I'm White and am struggling to find a well fitting name for the little man. It doesn't have to be a full on traditional Indian name, as long as its different but not hard to pronounce. All we (I've) come up with is Finn... Obviously not very Indian! Huge thanks in advance.

winkle I was just going to suggest Jai. My Indian friend (caucasian DH) has a little boy called this, full name Jayesh.

I really like the Indian name Ashwin which means light/first star of the night. It actually originates from an Anglo Saxon version meaning great wealth/swift so has resonance in both cultures.

helpmeifyoucan · 02/04/2011 13:48

I like Hari too.

Does it need to work in both cultures? A friend from school married a Indian British man, and their son is called James. My friend was happy to have an Indian name, but her husband who is born in UK, preferred an easy to pronounce and spell English name.

Thanks so much everyone. Its actually funny because I have my hair done at a place called Hari's (owner is Indian) and thought of that also today! No it doesn't have to be Indian, he was born in the UK so he's very flexible but wanted to try and incorporate it if possible. Also liking Jai... Have a lot to think about now. Big thanks all around.

My one year old son is the same lovely mixture as yours, but we just went for the name we both liked best - Tom!! It suits him beautifully. Follow your instinct.

notanumber · 02/04/2011 20:27

I know a one year old of the same ethnic mix as your DS. He is called Milo. It suits him
