I'm trying to get an idea of how the name Jasper is seen. Various opinions I've come across are:
-posh but in a nice way
-posh but not in a good way
-lovely quirky classic
-a 'joke'/ cat's name
Please share your thoughts with me!

I don't want it to be on the rise, I want my boy to have an uncommon name.

That's okay then.

Ragwort · 31/03/2011 20:18

TheVisitor apologies for spelling mistake, I am usually more careful Grin

TheVisitor · 31/03/2011 20:30

Ner. :P Grin

Stropperella · 31/03/2011 20:33

Noooo, it's a wasp...

CPtart · 31/03/2011 20:53

It's a dog's name.

MerryMarigold · 31/03/2011 20:57

I think of it as a kind of weasly man, a bit creepy! A bit posh, but more just a weirdo. Sorry if anyone has a Jasper.

Gouged · 31/03/2011 20:59

Carrot.

Friendly ghost. (Almost!)

Rabbit.

LoopyLoopsChupaChups · 31/03/2011 21:01

I love it.

BigusBumus · 31/03/2011 21:23

I was absolutely set on Jasper for my DS2 until MIL laughed in horror and said "I will forever call him Jasper Carrott!" and DH then vetoed it. Angry

DS1 is Miles and I thought it would go with that fabulously, (or Hugo, which was 2nd choice). But ended up with a Harry which was the only one MIL liked... wish we'd never told her any of them. (Although Harry suits him completely and I love it for him).

I think Jasper is a class-less name, more arty and eccentric than obviously "posh".

Was posh, then Carrot.

kayleightaylor · 01/04/2011 20:24

Hi
We were going to call our son that, it was our 2nd option we then decided to go for Zachary Joseph. Jasper is such a lovely name. Good luck in deciding took us ages to pick the "perfect" name for our son.

Jojay · 01/04/2011 20:47

Ds1 is Jasper and I still love it. We're not very posh at all -we live in an ex council house, DH is a mechanic - but it's a great name.

In fact there's no other boys name I like as much. Ds2's name was a compromise and we're really sruggling to come up with boys names for the twins we're expecting, one of whom is male. Arhhh!

breadandhoney · 02/04/2011 09:39

lockets simba?? Hmm

muminthemiddle · 02/04/2011 13:55

For me it sounds a bit posh and poncey. Definately ginger haired although I don't know any! Only dogs called jasper.

TheVisitor · 02/04/2011 16:33

My Jasper is a blondie. Grin

Themasterandmargaritas · 02/04/2011 16:35

Mine is blonde too. And quite eccentric I have to say.

It sounds like a dog's name, sorry.

Underachieving · 03/04/2011 05:15

To me Jasper conjours up images of a Mummys boy, sitting alone in the playground, damp-eyed and waiting for the big boys to stop stamping his sandwiches into the floor.

CheerfulYank · 03/04/2011 05:23

I like it. Only know of one; his family is very arty/outdoorsy. Oh, and I know a huge chocolate lab with it as well, sorry.

But I've always liked it...it was the name of my imaginary pen pal when I was 8. Blush

LetThereBeRock · 03/04/2011 11:15

I love it.

meadowlarks · 03/04/2011 14:27

I personally always think of it as very Medieval, but that's just since there were hundreds of nobles in the 12th and 13th centuries called Jasper de Something. Nowadays, I do think it's considered a little posh, perhaps even a bit gimmicky, but that shouldn't change your opinion of it.
