I'm trying to get an idea of how the name Jasper is seen. Various opinions I've come across are:
-posh but in a nice way
-posh but not in a good way
-lovely quirky classic
-a 'joke'/ cat's name
Please share your thoughts with me!

Forward planning...Kate Middleton's mother has nothing on me let me tell you. o

LifeOfKate · 31/03/2011 14:45

Is it just me, or does anyone else always want to pronounce it with a lisp whenever they see it? Blush
It's the sort of name I really ought to like (I like other, similarly posh names), but I'm afraid I see it as a cat's name, sorry :(

mothermirth · 31/03/2011 14:48

I also know two dogs and a cat who are called Jasper. Not as cute as my DS though.

Grin IslaV: never too early.

Thomcat · 31/03/2011 14:53

I really like it.
When I was pregnant with no3 and thought it might be a boy, I had Kasper on my boys list of names, but like Jasper very much too. I wasn't allowed Jasper because my mums cat was called Jasper at the time and we see them alllllll the time.
It's a lovely name.

kerala · 31/03/2011 14:54

In the west country its the name of a wasp.

LifeOfKate · 31/03/2011 14:54

Ooo, you see I do like Casper!

MillsAndDoom · 31/03/2011 14:55

I know three Jaspers

One is a crazy cocker spaniel
One is a cheeky 7yo from a very creative middle class family
One is a stroppy 5yo from a wealthy but down to earth working class family

belcantwait · 31/03/2011 14:57

I have a jasper. He is scruffy mischievous shaggy haired hyperactive cuddly and totally scrummy! The name def suits him Smile

vaginiasmonalogue · 31/03/2011 15:35

I LOVE it xx

expatinscotland · 31/03/2011 15:48

It is the name of a lovely, shiny black, flat coat retriever.

MrsBloomingTroll · 31/03/2011 17:33

We seriously considered Jasper when I was pregnant with DC1. Love the name. Unfortunately I worked with someone called Jasper at the time, and he was an arse, so it was a no-go.

DC1 was a girl anyway.

I went to uni with another Jasper and he wasn't an arse.

Joannezipan · 31/03/2011 18:48

I really like it - Husband vetoed it. If your DH likes it then go for it!

TheVisitor · 31/03/2011 18:51

I have a 12 year old Jasper, and we're not posh at all. He really suits his name, smiley, cheeky and rather gorgeous lad. Grin

GORGEOUSX · 31/03/2011 18:55

Well, as you asked, I agree with the - a 'joke'/cat's name.

Ariesgirl · 31/03/2011 18:59

I have known several spaniels called Jasper Grin

Jasper Tudor was extremely gallant and brave and a fine man, by all accounts. If you feel like naming your child after the fifteenth century uncle of Henry VII, that is.

zingally · 31/03/2011 19:12

For a cat or dog, fine.
For a human, pretentious.

TheVisitor · 31/03/2011 19:25

Well, Zingally, both my son and I would completely disagree. There's nowt pretentious about us. :P

audley · 31/03/2011 20:03

Probably a doggy name. I have a barney and a caspar, wanted jasper but had to
Compromise. Have met several animals with these names but no boys!

breadandhoney · 31/03/2011 20:04

a per's name. i know a labrador called Jasper.

breadandhoney · 31/03/2011 20:04

*pet's Blush

Ragwort · 31/03/2011 20:06

I think it's a bit poncey and I can't think of many 'grown ups' called Jaspar - apart from Jaspar Carrott or Jaspar Conran ................

Bradyboo · 31/03/2011 20:06

Love love love it. So nearly called DS Jasper but was born with a head of shocking red hair that we thought there would be too many Jasper Carrot jokes!

MirandaGoshawk · 31/03/2011 20:07

It's a semi-precious stone, isn't it? I know a little boy called it - he's very bright and a bit eccentric. I like the name.

TheVisitor · 31/03/2011 20:08

Ragwort - it's JaspEr :P
