Boy names similar to Douglas or Gordon?

I like Douglas and Gordon for a boy but my partner has pointed out the nn issue (I didn't realise, but Gordon -> Gord-o!?)

He votes for John, which I am unsure about - boring? solid and traditional?

The surname is a 3 syllable Mac name

I have gone through the usual lists, baby books etc and am stumped. I would like a name to jump out and announce itself but it doesn't seem to be likely (due in a month and no boy names yet, lots of ideas for girl names.)

Howard and Bruce?

I actually like Douglas and Gordon though. Sick of hearing the same old names. People so unadventurous with boys names

I've never heard of shove on your coat either! although at school my dad used to call my friend siobhan shove off. boom boom. She tolerated it with a thin smile.

I like Douglas, Donald, Finlay, Rory, Ruaraidh, Glen, Fergus, Innes, Angus, Magnus, Murdo and Allan. Some of the place names, Lewis/Coll are nice too.

My son has one of the above names, never had any nn problems (apart from where's yer troosers!)

I have a Douglas John xxxx. I also loved Fraser, Glen, Craig, Murray. Used to find boys names really hard, but now love them and (almost) wish I could have more kids to use up more names. Maybe should get some pets! Grin
