What do you think of Araminta as a girl's name?

And do you think it sits well with sibling Isobel?

Don't like it - sorry

Eglu · 11/03/2011 21:40

I love it

Shitemum · 11/03/2011 21:42

You realise she will be called Minty?

exoticfruits · 11/03/2011 21:42

I like Isobel, but not Araminta and the chances of it not being Minty or similar are nil!

cowboylover · 11/03/2011 21:49

I like it but prefer Aramita (if that is a name?) as got the same sound but without the Minty element

Graciewitch · 11/03/2011 21:49

I like Minty, but we'd try not to shorten it at all, as we do with Isobel's name.

Unfortunately you have no control over their name once they get to about 5yrs and Isobel will only remain Isobel if she wants to and she may prefer Izzy or, as one 11yr old I know, Is.

speaka1000words · 11/03/2011 21:52

its dreadful

melezka · 11/03/2011 21:55

Sorry - the only Minty I know is a lazy pothead with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement.

(People who teach have problems with some names for rather specific reasons Grin)

Rhubarbgarden · 11/03/2011 22:42

I think Minty is a fab nickname.

expatinscotland · 11/03/2011 22:55

I think they both sound super dumb unless, well, you're the type of person who would use such a name and, if you're not, well, you're not.

maras2 · 11/03/2011 22:57

Are you trippin' ?? Straight from a 1980's Jilly Cooper novel.

icapturethecastle · 11/03/2011 23:09

Tamara Mellon's daughter is a Araminta and I think she is called Minty - I don't dislike it and I think it goes quite well with Isobel. But it might be a little pretentious Smile

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 11/03/2011 23:13

It's lovely.
My favourite girl's name, actually, but dh wouldn't entertain it for dd.
Wish I had used it now. Hope you're brave enough to choose it Smile

Ariesgirl · 11/03/2011 23:17

Um...not sure how to say this tactfully but I loathe it! But then I don't like mint.

tomgoodswife · 11/03/2011 23:34

What about Astrid as an alternative - I think it would go quite well with Isobel. It means divine beauty.

BertieBasset · 11/03/2011 23:36

When this was mentioned by my friend as a potential name my dh thought she said "Arry Minter" and thought she was talking about a boxer!

Not a name I like, sorry.

Pumpster · 11/03/2011 23:37

Pretentious!

muminthecity · 11/03/2011 23:47

I love it but I think you have to be very, very posh, live in the country, own a couple of horses and go to private school to really be able to pull it off.

smother · 11/03/2011 23:56

dreadful. it's probably the poshest girl's name I can think of. but if that's what floats your boat....

EmmaBGoode · 12/03/2011 04:53

Post, pretentious and reminds me of the fat bloke off Eastenders.

Oddly enough, I still like it though Grin

MirandaWest · 12/03/2011 04:56

Don't like it.

Titsandteeth · 12/03/2011 05:11

I love Minty. It's a great nickname. Araminta however, unless you're one of the landed gentry, seems a bit try hard to me.

Tuschinski · 12/03/2011 09:26

Don't like it at all, sounds like a dodgy liqueur.
