I am looking for a nature/flower name.
There are a lot of Daisy, Poppy, Lilys now, and I saw this in a flower fairy book.
I have a Rowan (it was practically unheard of in 1980!)

I absolutely LOVE lilac! What a lovely name!

MrClaypole · 11/03/2011 20:52

Beautiful name, you have to use it!

cowboylover · 11/03/2011 21:34

I love it also x

maxpower · 11/03/2011 21:35

sorry, I don't like it - but tbh it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks Smile

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 11/03/2011 21:38

I'm not keen, tbh. It's quite a hard sound, and where I'm from she'd be called 'Lie' (we shorten every name going). I do, however, adore Violet despite the 'Vie' thing.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 11/03/2011 22:34

I'm not overly keen (reminds me of paint..??) but hey, it might grow on me...

midtowner · 11/03/2011 22:38

I knew a Lilac - she'd be about 4 by now. I think it's a pretty name but it had to grow on me.

Rhubarbgarden · 11/03/2011 22:39

Not keen, sorry.

cheekeymonkey · 12/03/2011 18:59

Midtowner, was that a deliberate pun?Smile

mathanxiety · 12/03/2011 19:09

Not really keen, prefer Laurel or Hazel.

Unusual flower or flower-related names:
Aven
Linnea
Calantha
Zinnia
Aster
Camille
Willow or Willa
Zytka

Onion1968 · 12/03/2011 19:25

yuk!

BuntyPenfold · 12/03/2011 20:21

Thanks Chickens. I didn't even think of 'Lie'. Bother.

Mathanxiety-thank you. I love Linnea.

There are 2 Willows in our tiny village here, I don't know if it's a wider trend.

It does matter to me what other people think. I know I have unusual (maybe odd) taste in some things, and also don't watch any soaps so I might miss something everyone else knows, if you see what I mean.

I love it. V nearly used it for dd1.

Firawla · 12/03/2011 22:08

I like it, I think it would be nice with Rowan. It makes me think of lavender fields cos of the colour

cheekeymonkey · 13/03/2011 20:29

The lilac is such a beautiful sweet smelling tree though!

Onion1968 · 13/03/2011 21:24

but it's bad luck to take it into the house.....

A1980 · 14/03/2011 00:56

Not keen I'm afriad. Violet is nicer.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 14/03/2011 09:21

Oooh no, it's horrible.

jimper · 14/03/2011 10:22

What about Heather?

Mum2Pea · 14/03/2011 10:30

sorry, not so keen, sounds a bit 'harsh'

mathanxiety · 14/03/2011 16:53

A little bit like laxative...

alexaj · 14/03/2011 19:17

AWFUL.

vess · 14/03/2011 21:21

I like Lila (pronounced Lee-la), and it has a similar meaning. Not sure about Lilac. Looks nicer written down that said out loud.

websticks · 14/03/2011 22:24

Concordia · 14/03/2011 22:25
