I am looking for a nature/flower name.
There are a lot of Daisy, Poppy, Lilys now, and I saw this in a flower fairy book.
I have a Rowan (it was practically unheard of in 1980!)

I don't get Lilac sounding 'harsh' - to me the L sound is very soft. Whereas the 'Vee' in Violet sounds quite hard IMO.

Never heard of it being used as a name before but I think it's rather sweet, you could also have Lylie as a nn.

However, as an alternative, what about Hazel?

Am I interpreting you correctly that you had a baby in 1980 and another one now? THAT's an age gap!

Nila is the root of the name/word Lilac apparently -- means blue.

'Lilac is an Old French word for the lilac plant and the pale purple colour known as lilac. Lilac itself comes from the Persian nilak meaning Indigo which in turn comes from nila, a Sanskrit word meaning light blue.' (from babynamesworld.com)

I love iot - considered it for mine that turned out to be a DS. Lovely - evokes a lovely perfume too.
