I really like this name, it's growing on me daily but now I wonder if there are loads? Haven't actually met any but I'm thinking it's suddenly becoming popular, am I right?

I have one who is 3 - it's a lovely name and people always comment. I know of a couple of new babies named Eliza so perhaps it is getting more popular but certainly not to the extent that there will be 3 or 4 in her class.

Underachieving · 09/03/2011 21:20

Never met one under 40. I think it could become popular in the next few years, but I would be surprised if it was in the current top 50.

hellymelly · 09/03/2011 21:22

I don't know any either,its a lovely name.

GollyHolightly · 09/03/2011 21:23

I have a 14yr old Eliza, we've not come across many others at all.

MrsKitty · 09/03/2011 21:28

I only know one, and she's mine.

PepsiPopcorn · 09/03/2011 21:29

I don't know any, although it's recommended on MN quite often.

DramaInPyjamas · 09/03/2011 21:32

Natalie Cassidy, Sonia from Eastenders named her baby Eliza last year.

mybootsaremuddy · 09/03/2011 21:42

DD1 is an Eliza nn for Elizabeth shes 11. Have only ever met one other last year and she was 8.

Jojay · 09/03/2011 21:43

I don't know any

NotAnotherNewNappy · 09/03/2011 22:09

I have one Smile, have yet to meet another. It's way outsude the top 100 (approx 140) and has been pretty static over the last few years. It seems to be a m'net fave, which may give you the impression it's more popular than it really is.

Janus · 09/03/2011 22:30

Oh thank you, nothing wrong with popular but don't want 3 in her class and 'classic' names just aren't for me and won't go with our other 3 girls. Course it could be a boy!!
Am 36 weeks and can't believe how long it's taking to choose this time (but had serious twinges last night so need to get choosing soon!).
Many thanks.

I know 2, one aged 3 and one a year. I suspect it will get gradually more popular but not ridiculously so.

dan1981 · 10/03/2011 08:36

i only know of natalie cassidy's Eliza and a menber of the royal family has one - apparently she's going to be a bridesmaid for william and kate Grin

i don't think its too popular

olddeuteronomy · 10/03/2011 13:08

And just met another today, age 4!

dan1981 · 10/03/2011 13:16

Eliza Doolittle!! Think she's a singer in the charts at the mo....

Busspuzzle · 10/03/2011 14:50

Ive met one and shes two i love it.

GabySolis · 10/03/2011 19:51

The only Eliza I've heard of is Eliza Dolittle the singer, love her :-)
Got two school age children and have never come across an Eliza so don't think it's that common.

Kaekae · 10/03/2011 20:29

This name has really grown on me...although I don't think I could use it as my one of my DDs middle names is Elizabeth. I also think its becoming more and more popular since Natalie C used it for her baby.

MajorBumsore · 10/03/2011 22:26

But Eliza is a classic name Confused

mumatron · 10/03/2011 22:32

i have an Eliza (9weeks) and i don't know of any others in rl.

you should definately go for it as long as you don't live near me

Sorry, what I mean by classic is 'Catherine', 'Alice', 'Emma', maybe traditional is more what I mean? BTW, I don't dislike them it's just not what I have chosen before so it won't 'fit' with the other 3 girls!
The more I think about it the more I'm loving it, I think it's number 1 on my list and glad to hear that it's not everywhere but no-one thinks it's 'out there' either!
Thanks you!

Eliza doesn't quite fit into the classics as it was originally a diminutive of Elizabeth. However, since it's been used as a name in its own right for the last 300 yrs, it could also be considered quite traditional.

I also think any name with a z in it tends to sound quite quirky.

I did a lot of baby name research when having DD1 Grin

PepsiPopcorn · 11/03/2011 17:46

I don't think of Eliza as "classic", but it is an old-fashioned name.

cowboylover · 11/03/2011 22:06

I only think of the singer as well! Its nice

MrsKitty · 12/03/2011 07:05

OK, I'm really out of touch then Blush, because I had no idea there was a singer called Eliza Doolittle! Eliza Doolittle, to me, means 'My Fair Lady' (Which is where DD's name comes from!)
