Rainbow children, I've heard that term before but it means something else. I think it's what a small group of Americans call children on the spectrum if they don't accept the dx

Grabaspoon · 24/02/2011 11:10

ValiumSingleton · 24/02/2011 12:13

just read the link about rainbow children. what a meaningless, baffling load of old twaddle.........

givemushypeasachance · 24/02/2011 12:14

There's "hunter green" but also "hunter orange" - the colour that people wear in the US when stalking moose and such so other hunters don't accidentally shoot them!

ValiumSingleton · 24/02/2011 12:16

oh right! not sure I'd want to be called after that.

lolizzy, can you tell me in english what a rainbow child is... Confused

Do you mean lololizzie or me to answer that Valium? I think you might mean mean as I'm the OP. Rainbow children didn't mean anything particular that I knew of when I started the topic. It was simply a topic title. Appologies if it confused anyone, not having ever heard of rainbow children as a term for anything before it was simply two words together to start up a thread on colourful names.

i need to research that further ie the rainbow, but when i worked in the 'new age' industry for years there was a lot of talk on indigo children, we even had talks given on it at the shop i worked. I didn't attend any but did sell the books in the shop. It pissed me off TBH as there were a lot of very 'precious' parents who described their beloved offspring as being Indigos, or worse, proclaimed 'I am an Indigo'! (ie grown up special person!)
As i vaguely understood, the Indigo was a child born with some special gift or message, to teach us mere mortals. An Indigo was typically a child that had difficulty fitting into 'normal' society eg behavioural problems..Aspergers was often mentioned. But many parents who did not 'parent' as such and did not discipline in any way, also labelled their child as Indigo ie 'she won't listen to me' 'he won't do as he's told'(umm just normal DC stuff???! in my view) and took this as concrete proof that they had indeed sired an Indigo
Let's just say, i had a certain type of clientelle who liked putting labels on people to big themselves up.
I am childless (although would hope that is irrelevant) and was fairly horrified by all of this , as i pointed out, aren't ALL children special? Which went down like a lead balloon.
Anyway..the indigo craze died out and the likes of Doreen Virtue needed a new subject to sell millions of books world wide to fund her extravagant lifestyle ie she is the WAG of crystals and lentil weaving. Enter..the Rainbow and Crystal children-
-Give me strength!!!! and i am an angel believing, meditating type of person but at the same time consider myself to be pretty grounded. I never read up on the rainbows and crystals but believe to be just the new name for the latest/current generation being born right now, of 'gifted' kids.
I did not think the poster was referring to this though and love the idea of colourful names!
Sorry if i have offended anyone who is into the idea of the Indigos etc! Wink Personally i don't like the idea of kids having spiritual labels for something for parents to boast about..
