Lucie/Lucy?

Not sure on girls names, its really hard this time around.
First thought Francesca now maybe Lucie or Lucie Mae
Or Lucy May?

Any ideas? Like pretty names but dont want too popular Isobel or Jessica but thats the sort of flavour of name i like.

Thanks ;)

Not a fan of the Something-May/mae trend personally. Unless you mean May/mae as a middle name? Also, I think Lucie Mae looks very much as though you are purposely choosing unusual/alternative spellings, which to me just looks a bit...contrived? Self conciously modern? That aside, I think Lucy is pretty, May is also pretty, and Francesca also pretty.

lucykate · 21/02/2011 10:12

well, obviously, i like the name lucy Wink

sarahbeth2 · 21/02/2011 10:14

Mmm, maybe May as a middle name but not sure really, didnt know was a trend.
Bit worried francesca may be nicknamed fanny or something silly like that may be best to stick with Lucy as a spelling then?

Lucie much nicer than Lucy!

OliveMalay · 21/02/2011 10:17

Lucy May is very nice.

Francesca is OK, although I prefer Frances.

How about Megan, Rebecca, Emily, Grace, Sophie, Georgia, Amber, Lydia, Sarah, Holly?

sarahbeth2 · 21/02/2011 10:17

ha ha ha, then maybe lucie and not the mae, that may be one step too far! I have to admit i do like the spelling lucie more but imagine the poor girl having a lifetime of spelling it lol.

I think Francesca is often shortened to Cesca ("Cheska"), which I like. I also think Lucie is fine, but not with Mae. Lucie/Lucy Elizabeth, Lucia Hannah, Lucy Sophia, Lucy Katherine...? But we always choose a family name for middle names, as I think they are a little pointless otherwise. Do you have any female rellies you'd like to honour, whose name you don't hate?

Astrophe · 21/02/2011 10:20

yes thats true, she will always be "Lucie, with an ie not a y"

sarahbeth2 · 21/02/2011 10:21

oo no just thought my daughter is Millie, mm now that may not sound great Millie and Lucie?! May is my nans name.

I have a Lucy Frances (F is my mum's name) and it is GORGEOUS. She is nearly 6 now and I only know one other Lucy, who is about 3. Classic and not too popular. Great name.

plus3 · 21/02/2011 10:26

Lucy Isobel is my DD's name - really wanted Lucie, but we have an odd surname. DH has spent a lifetime correcting that spelling, so didn't feel the need to heap the misery on DD!

OliveMalay · 21/02/2011 10:45

Milly and Lucy sound nice together.

OliveMalay · 21/02/2011 10:45

(sorry - Millie with an ie!)

Bonsoir · 21/02/2011 11:20

I think that if you have a Millie with an -ie, you must have a Lucie with an -ie, or else everyone around you will get very confused!

I'm also a Lucy. IMO alwaysstick to the traditional spelling. Lucy looks so much nicer than Lucie. My dd was born in May so I gave her that as a middle name with that spelling. When's she due? I think Millie and Lucy go lovely together.

jellybeans · 21/02/2011 15:38

Lucy May is lovely.

Bonsoir · 21/02/2011 17:13

Lucie is traditional spelling!

DancingThroughLife · 21/02/2011 17:21

Lucie and Francesca were on our list for DD. Along with Georgia, Elizabeth, Emily and Heidi (from DH, I put my foot down). We ended up with a Darcey.

I'm a Katy (with a Y not an IE) and we ALWAYS have to spell our surname for everyone. DH also has a very common name which always gets misspelled for some reason. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't worry about her always having to spell it, she'll get on with it when the time comes.

I personally prefer Lucie to Lucy, but either way it is a very pretty name. Lucie also looked better written with our surname than Lucy Confused

kerala · 21/02/2011 19:05

Surely Lucie is the French spelling if you are English and living in England it has to be Lucy or she will face a life of tediously having to spell out her name.

Bonsoir · 21/02/2011 19:15

Lucie

Galdem · 21/02/2011 19:16

Lucie is nice if it is short for something, e.g. Lucille. But Lucy is nicer as a stand alone name. Not sure why i think this, i just do!

Bonsoir · 21/02/2011 19:17

But Lucie is not short for Lucille...

Grumpla · 21/02/2011 19:18

My cousin is an 'ie' and CONSTANTLY has to spell her name for people. Think I would go for the Y spelling myself - and I do think it is a lovely name. Not so keen on May or Mae tbh.
