Not sure on girls names, its really hard this time around.
First thought Francesca now maybe Lucie or Lucie Mae
Or Lucy May?

Any ideas? Like pretty names but dont want too popular Isobel or Jessica but thats the sort of flavour of name i like.

Thanks ;)

Lucie is a bit prententious IMHO and I prefer Lucy.

Mae/May - no preference.

Francesca is better though.....

Also Lucy May prefer not to have a name which sound like a fill in the blanks puzzle!
Lucy May prefer a name which is not so easy to do this with.
Lucy May never forgive you for the ease with which people can take the micky!

My niece is Lucie and it never causes her any problems. Lots of names can be spelt with an -ie or a -y alternative (Millie/y, Katie/y, Mollie/y, Sophie/y...)

Lucie seems like one of those made-up spellings, and is no more 'traditional' than Lucie en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lucy

I would go with Lucy.

Lucy and Millie is easier to say than Millie and Lucy, when you are calling across the park.

DeOilyCart · 21/02/2011 19:34

Ah, Bonsoir, of course your neice trumps mine and is obviously superior.

I don't quite understand why so many names are being teamed with May or Mae. In Dcs school we have a Jodie Mae (both names used) Gracie May, Amber Mae, and I want to scream 'Jodie may NOT' .

candleshoe · 21/02/2011 19:36

Grin deoily

Bonsoir · 21/02/2011 19:39

I don't understand why people think that Lucie isn't standard traditional English spelling when it clearly is - all children know about Lucie from Mrs Tiggy Winkle, but my childhood also featured Mabel Lucie Atwell jigsaw puzzles. I'm sure I knew the "Lucie" spelling before the "Lucy" spelling.

DeOilyCart · 21/02/2011 22:07

I think the Mabel Lucie Atwell connection might have made me erase that spelling from my mind Grin.

Clearly there's no logic to it - everyone must choose the spelling that they personally prefer. Smile

Galdem · 22/02/2011 08:30

Mollie/Millie/Pollie = wrong. Sorry.

Polly
Molly
Milly
Lucy

Better.

CharlieBoo · 22/02/2011 08:37

Lucy is the most common spelling in this country. I believe that Lucie is the French spelling. It looks much more sophisticated with a 'y' IMO.

diddl · 22/02/2011 09:23

I always thought that Lucie was the French form of Lucia.

Prefer Lucia tbh.

But if having Lucy, would spell it with a y.

Also like Francesca.

sarahbeth2 · 22/02/2011 11:14

Gosh, just think its personal opnion then on this one really. Will have a think, i have a few months, hey may even end up with something completely different lol. Oh and the May is a middle name not a tag on ;)

Prefer Lucy to Lucie and love both Mae and May as middle names.

TobyLerone · 22/02/2011 16:56

My sister is a Lucie and she has far more trouble with her surname than her first! She usually just spells her entire name without being asked, but it's no problem for her really and she never minds.

MazzzaG · 22/02/2011 21:34

Lucy as lucie reminds my of lucien

Underachieving · 22/02/2011 21:41

Lucy May is the spelling that will make her life easiest and I think there is value to that (which is why my 2 DD's have got the most common British spellings, even though I would have liked the original foreign spelling for DD1). Lucy Francesca is also lovely.

sarahbeth2 · 28/02/2011 12:47

Well my husband said he likes the name lucy (phew) but thinks the lucy sounds 1980's and lucie is better. Dont take offence Lucy's, just saying what he said (which i dont agree with but find funny)
But now we are keen on Libby as well but unsure whether Libby and Millie sound funny now?!!

DD1 is called Lucinda and was always called such, never shortened. However now she is 19 she calls herself Lucie.....still a pretty name and I really don't mind.......Lucinda is apparently the original name of Cinderella....

flopsy1974 · 28/02/2011 15:26

Lucie is a lovely name. Please leave it at just Lucie. Where I live most baby girls are called something-May/Mae/Mai. Sounds horrible if you ask me.

sarahbeth2 · 28/02/2011 18:04

Not going with the May buisness anymore as didnt realise it was so popular, will only use as a middle name if we do as my nan was May but would stick to first name then that as seperate. Funny i didnt know lots of people were doing that. ;)

Personally I don't like Libby, it sounds a bit heavy and nicknamey. Lucie is prettier.
