Does Jasmine Pearl scream air freshener to you?

Well, Pearl is definately on the shortlist for a middle name if we have a girl (in honour of my gran who's name is actually Margaret) and DP really likes Alexia or Alexa for a first name. I like these too, but also love the name Jasmine.

Trouble is I'm wondering if Jasmine Pearl sounds like something you spray round the house to cover the smell of the dog farting?

It wouldn't be double barrelled (Jasmine-Pearl) so wouldn't be a major issue in a few years, but do you think this name would remind people of Febreeze or similar? Confused

Tampon surely?

tomatoesontoast · 18/02/2011 14:28

would never had thought that but now you mention it..
Alexa Pearl has a nice ring to it

How about Pearl Jasmine?

saffy85 · 18/02/2011 17:02

Did think about Pearl as a first name but DP's name begins with P and for that reason he said no. This mainly is because both his parents also have P names and there was a lot of "accidently" opening each other's mail when he still lived at home.

I wouldn't have thought anything along the lines of fabric conditioner/tea/air freshener.

I would have thought 'lovely name'

HeartShapedValiumSandwich · 18/02/2011 18:07

It's lovely so I wish I could say no, but it does make me think of some product along those lines. Possibly even a tampon. I think they've got some new smooth one which is called pearl.

sarahbeth2 · 18/02/2011 18:41

Like it though :)

fanjolina · 18/02/2011 18:45

It made me think of Ann Summers connotations too

seeker · 18/02/2011 18:55

Tampon, I'm afraid!

Why not go for Pearl ansd a first name? It's lovely - and unudual without being odd.

Guacamole · 18/02/2011 18:58

Yes I'm afraid it does.

BrianAndHisBalls · 18/02/2011 18:58

MIL is Jasmine, she's 60 odd, everytime I mention her name to anyone they die laughing. Probably because its a Disney Princess.

Sorry op Smile

LynetteScavo · 18/02/2011 19:00

DS1 was going to be Jasmine. It's a lovely name, but I'm relieved he was a bay, because Jasmine suddenly became chav as.

tomatoesontoast · 18/02/2011 20:10

ha haaaa I think I have cracked it - how about Yasmin Pearl?

scottishmummy · 18/02/2011 20:12

Jemima was on my shortlist! DP said it isn't english enough Hmm admittedly I got the idea from my gran, who was telling me about her aunt Jemima who was scottish, like the rest of the family.

Don't get DP's logic at all really- he has his heart set on Alexa which I'm sure is greek Confused so therefore not english either.

The whole naming thing is fun but a sodding minefield! I don't remember thinking about it all this much last time, just made sure DD's initials didn't spell/stand for anything embarrassing.

And I still don't think Jasmine is a chavvy name. Or Pearl an old lush name. But then I don't know any old lushes... each to their own ofcourse.

thats thing about names.subjective.personal.and what to one person= unique & lovely is euugh and rough to someone else

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 19/02/2011 00:19

I know what Lynette means about Jasmine - but, then I know a lovely, grown up Jasmine who definitely isn't, so yes, it depends on your associations. If you love it, you will probably always love it. How would you feel if you didn't pick it?

saffy85 · 19/02/2011 08:39

Some of names people suggest on here make me want hurl scottishmummy but other posters are saying "oh that's so beautiful/original etc! Aleast no one else will have that name!" But often I think the reason some names are SO original is because they're bloody horrible Hmm no one else would be caught dead naming their DC that Grin

Saffy, yes, middle classes are more confident about giving their children ugly names. There's a kind of badge about it. We're so cosy in our halls adjoining beautifully restored victorian villa in expensive burb, and money in the bank for indies that we can call our children Wilberforce and Hyacinth. (Bill and Cindy)

HeartShapedValiumSandwich · 19/02/2011 10:36

.... because you need a charmed life to pull off some names. (that was the point I was trying to make)

jenandberry · 19/02/2011 10:37

stripper and not paint.

BrianAndHisBalls · 19/02/2011 20:03

isnt alexa dynasty? they're all a bit 'showgirl'

WidowWadman · 19/02/2011 20:40

My husband thinks it sounds a bit like a sex toy. Sorry.

saffy85 · 19/02/2011 21:07

Alexa Dynasty? Confused what like that american soap? no idea. I was watching far more sophisticated stuff in the 80's. Like Postman Pat for example. Anyway if people ruled out names coz they were characters in soaps they'd be no names left.

Might try out a name or 2 on MIL. If she hates it I'll know I'm on to a winner her taste sucks. Unlike mine. Grin
