Girls name needed - quite traditional, and preferably long!

Looking for girls names, pretty, but not too dainty, can include Irish, but not too unusual, and preferably three syllabals as we have a short surname.
What do people think of these....
Juliet
Niamh
Genevieve
Imogen
Sophia
Madeleine
Orlaith
Any other suggestions?
(Only a few weeks into my pregnancy, so plenty of time to decide yet)

Romily/Romola (like actress Romola Garee)

Florence

Magdalen??

Love the 2 names you've added. Much prefer Matilda to Madeleine as I know sooooo many Madeleines.

Mahalia?
Aurelia?

Oralia comprises the word 'oral', which might not be great for a teenage girl.

mumtobee · 19/02/2011 19:54

DH didn't like Oralia....and agree with above, Aurelia is a much better spelling!
Short list now is:
Naimh
Sophia
Madeleine
Orlaith
Beatrice
Matilda
Alicia (pronounced Alice - ea)
After family discussions our favourites for now are:
Naimh (with Evelyn for middle name)
Orlaith (with Maye for middle name)
Still quite a few weeks to first scan so if it turns out to be twin girls then these two would be perfect!

Niamh and Orla are both gorgeous. I would suggest the shorter spelling instead of Orlaith to avoid having to explain the pronunciation endlessly.

OliveMalay · 19/02/2011 21:18

I like Sophia, Beatrice and Alicia best from your short list :) However that's just my taste, go with what you love!

LittleDonkin · 19/02/2011 23:02

The first name that came to mind was Bernadette

vicbar · 19/02/2011 23:04

Clementine. Its DD3 middle name as DH wouldnt let me. Im still not sure on her 1st name and have taken to calling her Clem. Smile

snice · 19/02/2011 23:09

I don't think anyones said Susannah yet

mavornia · 19/02/2011 23:11

Mariana

PorcelinaOfTheVastOceans · 20/02/2011 00:00

i love niamh, but DP would only let me use it as a middle name for DD. which i don't mind so much now, because i am already fed up of people saying '...nee-am?' grr!

matilda and madeleine are lovely Smile

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/02/2011 08:44

Use Orla not Orlaith. And only if your accent can pronounce it properly (with an r and not awla)

pinkhebe · 20/02/2011 08:49

Ursula, I love that name Grin

agora1 · 20/02/2011 11:17

Nuala
Bethany
Helena
Penelope
Georgina

agora1 · 20/02/2011 11:19

I love Naimh and Orla

OliveMalay · 20/02/2011 12:41

Orla, Erin or Niamh seem a very popular choice for those with Irish connections.

fifi25 · 21/02/2011 16:55

Romilly or Ethne are my faves, Romilly i used and Ethne got the no no off everyone but i still love it.

fifi25 · 21/02/2011 16:58

I also have a Niamh whos 10 but shes not keen on people mispronouncing it daily. I love Erin which i also choose for Niamh.
