I really like this name, but does anyone know a Martha and does she get it shortened to anything?

It's that I want to shorten it, but wondered if there's an obvious nickname that she would be called by everyone, that I can't think of?

It's NOT that I want to shorten it.
Sorry.

DD has a friend called Martha and it is never shortened.

Sinkingfeeling · 09/02/2011 22:08

We have a Martha and we don't shorten it, but have heard others call her Matty Confused.

Changeisagoodthing · 09/02/2011 22:08

razors · 09/02/2011 22:10

compo · 09/02/2011 22:10

FunnysInTheGarden · 09/02/2011 22:10

I love the name Martha, and have never heard of a shortened version.

compo · 09/02/2011 22:11

Oh and Mad Marth, Marthy Arthy

when you know someone really well you'll call them anything Grin

Mertie, which isn't shorter I know, but there you go.

Guacamole · 09/02/2011 22:14

I know one, as far as I know she's just Martha, I've never heard anyone shorten it.

HairyToedHobbit · 09/02/2011 22:15

I know one (in her 40s now though) called Marty.

AllieW · 09/02/2011 22:16

I know a Martha (32) and her name is not shortened.

Hassled · 09/02/2011 22:16

I know a toddler Martha, and she's just called Martha. Lovely name.

planestrainsautomobiles · 09/02/2011 22:16

Yes I know one little Martha and no, never heard it shortened.

onimolap · 09/02/2011 22:19

I know one, primary school age. AFAIK, no nn.

23balloons · 09/02/2011 22:19

I had an 8 year gap when I stayed at home until both dcs were at school. It is on my cv & generally jobs these days don't accept cvs anyway (none that I have applied for anyway). Usually there is a 6+ page form to complete & you have to cover every gap anyway. I have had plenty of interviews & even got a job so I don't think it would matter that much. You could argue that childcare for preschoolers is much easier to arrange than childcare for school age children anyway (although maybe more expensive).

sorry wrong thread Blush

GrumbleBee · 09/02/2011 22:20

Wow! I had no idea there were so many different ones!

I sort of hoped that if we decided to call her that, she would be just Martha... so actually, it's kind of reassuring that there's not one obvious nickname. Thank you, kind posters!

(I quite like Matty.)

It was my late aunt's name. She was always called, I'm sorry to say this - Madge

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/02/2011 22:22

Well we know a lovely 13 year old Martha known as Martha Moo by all her friends.
X.

chickbean · 09/02/2011 22:23

My Martha is one. When people ask me what we call her for short I say "Arthur" Smile

GrumbleBee · 09/02/2011 22:26

I think I'd prefer Arthur to Madge. Grin

My Martha is usually Martha. Although occasionally we shorten it to Marf. She, however, refers to herself as Bo Confused
