I really like this name, but does anyone know a Martha and does she get it shortened to anything?

It's that I want to shorten it, but wondered if there's an obvious nickname that she would be called by everyone, that I can't think of?

My great grandmother was a Martha nn Mattie. She was a lovely lovely lady so I adore the name!

muminthemiddle · 10/02/2011 00:33

I only know one and she is always called martha.

hatwoman · 10/02/2011 00:39

yes
no

I have a Martha and most people call her just that. My husband however is determind to shorten all my kids names and refers to her as Marth or Marthie. Despite that I would say there is no obvious nickname.

BuntyPenfold · 11/02/2011 09:36

Marfa around here I'm sorry to say.

smother · 11/02/2011 22:17

I know two little Marthas, one is just Martha and the other one gets called Marcie which I think is adorable. It's a lovely name!

BikeRunSki · 11/02/2011 22:21

Yes, Matty.

Actually I don't know her, but she and her twin sister enterntained my (then) 10 month old DS on a flight to France about 18 months ago. They were lovely girls.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 11/02/2011 22:44

My colleague is called Marty for short

strandednomore · 12/02/2011 18:50

We have a Martha and she is usually just Martha but also gets Martha-darth or Marth.

IloveJackWhite · 12/02/2011 18:54

Just know one little one and it's never shortened. Her parents chose it especially for the lack of shortened names it has.

EsioTrot · 12/02/2011 18:58

We have a Martha, she gets Marth or unfortunately Smarth on occasion Blush

EsioTrot · 12/02/2011 18:58

Pronounced more like schmarth tbh

IngridFletcher · 12/02/2011 19:01

Mine gets called 'M'. Not by me!

strandednomore · 12/02/2011 19:24

THere are more Martha's around than I realised. You all have very good taste!

Stars22 · 14/02/2011 22:24

I no a 3 yr old, an 11 year old and a 25 year old Martha. 2 are shortened to Marf by there close friends.

Beamur · 14/02/2011 22:27

One of my chums has an older sister called Martha, who she calls 'Mart' but in a delicious Scottish accent so it sounds lovely.

bamboostalks · 14/02/2011 22:30

Miffy which is just so so sweet.

halfcaff · 14/02/2011 22:31

The Martha I know (10) is known affectionately as Martha Muffin or Muffles. But usually just Martha.

candleshoe · 14/02/2011 22:35

The Martha in DDs school is Martha at school but 'Mar' to her sister, mum and dad!

Sound wierd to me a lot like they are calling her 'Ma' like US cowboy speak for mother!

smelltheroses · 15/02/2011 21:36

We considered Mimi as a potential NN.

hellymelly · 15/02/2011 21:37

I know a Martha (nearly 16).She doesn't get shortened to anything!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 15/02/2011 21:38

I know 2 Martha's.
