Too twee?

So two questions:

Is it impossibly twee to have 2 DD's both with "flower" names?

and

Catherine or Katherine?

Thoughts please?

Katherine

I LOVE Lily and Iris together!

wilkos · 08/02/2011 22:55

dds full name is Lily Catherine Ann, so naturally I am biased!

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/02/2011 22:57

Lily and Iris sound lovely together.

Katharine - that is the only spelling I like (dd's middle name is Katharine)

kalo12 · 08/02/2011 22:59

catherine

anonymosity · 08/02/2011 23:31

I had neighbours with a Lily and a Rose. I did think it naff at the time, but mainly because I don't like the name Lily.

I do like Violet, Daisy, Rose, Iris, etc

Yes, they're Victorian, but its having a revival.

vicbar · 08/02/2011 23:35

Ive got a Poppy and vetoed Daisy for the other 2 girls but I do kinda regret it ow as Daisy is a lovely name and Im still not sure id DD3 name actually suits her.

anonymosity · 09/02/2011 03:51

Poppy is a fantastic name.

I think they sound fab together... Go for it.

jimper · 09/02/2011 08:47

I know of a family who have Poppy, Heather and Jasmine - I think it is lovely :)

glovesoflove · 09/02/2011 09:49

I like the two flower names thing - once met an old lady called Snowdrop, she was the youngest of eight sisters with flower names! IIRC there was Rose, Lily, Marigold, Iris, Daisy, Violet, and I can't remember the other, think it might have been Bluebell. I also once met (very elderly) sisters Amethyst and Emerald, younger sisters to Pearl and Ruby!

Prefer Katherine but either is vv nice.

LaydeeC · 09/02/2011 09:51

not keen on flower names so can't really offer an opinion but, without a doubt, Catherine. The other variants are just, well, wrong (imo obviously!)

Lily and Iris aren't anywhere near as twee as Poppy and Petal though, and with a "proper" middle name like Catherine/Katherine it de-twees it I think. Jamie and Jules would have gone for Lily Lala Lumps and Iris Ickle Bockle or something...

Colyngbourne · 09/02/2011 11:15

Katherine

Two flower names are fine.

Mumsnut · 09/02/2011 11:25

Lily and Iris very fine!

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 09/02/2011 11:35

For me it has to be Catherine.

And there are flower names and flower names - I mean, you could choose Jessamine (old form of Jasmine) or Ianthe (means Violet), or Tansy which is a herb but none of them is obviously a flower name.

But, as it happens, I like Lily and Iris.

ReturnOfTheBoomBap · 09/02/2011 11:37

Catherine. It's the classic spelling.

Lily, Rose, Iris, Violet, Daisy. All nice names. I don't think it's twee if they aren't really twee flower names, e.g. Pansy and Daffodil, or something Grin

VenetiaLanyon · 09/02/2011 11:42

Katharine so much better than Katherine or Catherine

Ephiny · 09/02/2011 11:45

I like Katherine (or Kathryn) but that seems to be the minority view!

I think two flower names could be fine, a flower name doesn't have to be twee. Lily and Iris are nice. I like Viola as well.

SleepyCaz · 09/02/2011 11:52

Jools Olivers daughters have all flower names, I think. They are really nice.

SleepyCaz · 09/02/2011 11:53

x posts Grin

NancyDrewHadaClue · 09/02/2011 15:55

I didn't even know you could spell Katharine with an "a" Blush

Funnily enough if DD had her way this baby would be Petal....or maybe sparkle!!

Iris and Lily are gorgeous. Catherine is prettiest in my view.
