Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

There is an Elvis at ds' preschool.

Our baby massage class 3.5 years ago had boys called Blixa, Dallas and Sirius.

Am amazed at Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare!

What can their parents have been thinking???

Lots of ahem unusual names/spellings at the school I work so nothing much amazes me.

asdx2 · 27/01/2011 05:36

Not unusual names but I do know twins with December birthdays called Mary and Joseph. Ready made nativity stars Grin

takethatlady · 27/01/2011 09:16

There's a Portia in the Merchant of Venice. I don't think there's a Mercedes anywhere! There's a Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet ...

takethatlady · 27/01/2011 09:17

Forgot to say that my DH is a teacher and he used to teach a boy called Ryan Air. Born a few years before Ryan Air existed :(

SingleUse · 27/01/2011 09:20

Yorick? Poor kid!! He'll get nicknamed Yourdick!! Grin

NormaSknockers · 27/01/2011 09:28

My MIL taught a boy called Earthworm a few years ago. I'm not sure if that was his actual registered name though but all his school paperwork was in that name.

"Not unusual names but I do know twins with December birthdays called Mary and Joseph. Ready made nativity stars"

I kid you not, there were twins here from USA, black/mohawk and gay, (famous) called Gregg and Gary Christmas and their mother was called Mary!! Grin

They were lovely too!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 27/01/2011 10:21

Mercedes the brand was named afer a girl named Mercédès Jellinek.

It was (and is) a "real" name, basically. I rather like it.

Porsche is a surname I assume. But then so are many names regularly used as firstnames. If I was hellbent on naming a daughter Porsche I'd stick to Portia I think. But it's not so bad.

I'm looking forward to having twins myself. Boo and Gatty Grin

Merlion · 27/01/2011 10:30
