Queenie is a nickname. At the end of the 19th c it would have been used for DD's called Victoria, these days for Elizabeths. I guess it'll be Kate in a few years?

TheMonster · 16/01/2011 15:33

I love Hepzibah! Ever since I read Carrie's War as a child I have thought it was a fabulous name.

I know a baby Sarah and think that Claire and Susan will be coming back soon too. Although it might be Suzanne or Susanna.

I used to work in the dole (unemployment benefit) office and the travelling community all used to call their girls names like this, the boys wre all named after their fathers so you would get generations all coming in with the same name. One poor lad was called after his father and grandfather, his name was Bobby Robert Surname. I kid you not!

Rhubarbgarden · 16/01/2011 19:20

Dd's middle name is Denise. I really like it.

For the list I nominate:
Malcolm
Alan
Carl
Lesley
Kimberley
Charmaine

mathanxiety · 16/01/2011 19:48

I was thinking of Denise for DD1's mn but chose another French name instead.

I'd add Geraldine and Thelma to the list.

TheGoddessBlossom · 16/01/2011 19:52

My ds'1s middle name is Frank. I love it. Love Stanley too.

I have a Stanley!

MamaVoo · 16/01/2011 19:59

I'm always amazed when I see posts mentioning Maud as a great name. If that can come back then absolutely anything can.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/01/2011 20:05

There was a little 1 year old girl in my shop last week and her name was Tracey. It was quite cute actually!

Mind you I never thought Mable would make a come back but I do know a very cute little Mable. So really anything can happen.

The names that were really popular when I was a child:-

Simon
Mark
Maureen
Carol/Caroline
Lisa
Beverley
Sandra
Colin
Keith

We've lost that sort of suburban middle-ground when it comes to naming our children.

MarniesMummy · 16/01/2011 20:48

I know an absolutely adorable Ada, (her sister is Edith too).

Lovely names!

I also know a Queenie (so named due to the character in Lark Rise to Candleford!)

Cookie79 · 16/01/2011 20:54

Ethel - can't see that one coming back.

nanninurse · 16/01/2011 21:14

Ethel is back!
